This is boomer propaganda and very likely AI, but still there’s a small part of the “we drank out of the hose pipe” generation in me that thinks it’s kinda sad how things have turned out I love tech, but I think there’s a need to disconnect every now and then which is getting harder and harder.

So you’re telling me in the future they don’t hire actors anymore, they tell a box to make the videos and pay a mega corporations which profits from stealing decades of copyrighted works without compensating the artist whose work it was trained on, and in doing so is also destroying the environment?

Trying something. The Ray Bradbury Challenge, which has you try to read one essay, one poem, and one short story a day for 1000 days… youtu.be/_W-r7ABrMYU?...

Day one: The Spike - George Orwell The Raven - Edgar Allan Poe Distribution - Paul Cornell Happy to accept suggestions for any of the categories, I’ve gotten Orwell and Poe from Project Gutenberg, the Cornell story is from Best of British Science Fiction 2021 edited by @wishusdonna.bsky.social

I’m not really one to read short stories, poetry, or essays, so… This is an adventure… The rest of the challenge is to write a short story a week… We’ll see how that goes…

Thought Experiment: What is in your Apocalypse Library? “Preppers” often only worry about being able to sustain themselves with food. What books would you include in a library to save humanity if you had to rebuild it from scratch? At least a K-12 education, and the tools the rebuild?

I wonder if just getting GCSE and A Level style text books would be enough? Is there a more interesting way to teach the sciences and the humanities? Sophie’s world did a great job of framing philosophy in a narrative, does such a book exist for other topics?

Also wondering if there are games (like board games because in this hypothetical scenario we are unlikely to have power and the internet) that teach through play?

Our nursery posts anonymised reports of what the children say when they do activities. We know our son is a chatterbox, and pretty advanced with his speaking, but it shows compared to his peers… He’s among the youngest in the class… Can you guess which one is him?

Look what turned up in my audible library today! #TheVoidDragon #TheOutcastMage 📚💙 #HowEvenDoHashtagsWork #IHaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing Physical copy arrives today from Waterstones. Might buy it on Kindle, and Kobo too… The Void Dragon by AWARD WINNING AUTHOR @annabelcwrites.bsky.social

I just realised that Man At Arms in the Masters of the universe / He-Man canon is called Duncan, likely a reference to Duncan Idaho from Dune…

Okay hear me out, Jump Around by House of Pain, but instead of the screech sampled in the original it’s Godzilla screaming. On a separate note, the signature screech is apparently a saxophone.

I picture the relationship between the US and the U.K. as that one scene in Avengers where the Loki says he’s a god and Hulk smashes him and says “puny god” We’re full of ourselves, we used to have power, and we’ve done some questionable things, but we’re nowhere near as powerful as we think we are

The US used to be a rational entity, but right now it’s a powerful beast fuelled by anger and rage, all of its actions (Even the well intentioned ones) cause massive collateral damage, and it could beat the shit out of us.

This started as Google translations, with native Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese speakers already confirming/modifying the sentences. Is there anyone who speaks: Arabic, German, French, Hindu, Korean, Portuguese and Russian to check the others too?
