📗 BOOKS 📗 I read more books in 2025 than I have in a long long time, and it’s been excellent. I also enjoyed sharing and summarising them here, so here is my 2026 thread of non comic stuff I’ve read:

WOW, these look cool?!

We are extremely excited to reveal our Friends of Thought Bubble prints for this year! The top two tiers will receive two exclusive A4 prints, one by Tula Lotay, one by Jock. Friends of TB directly fund the outreach work we do, enabling us to work with schools, libraries and charities!

We’ve been working on this for a while, felt quite daunting as there is so much to cover. But, after attending an event last week where I had a very rough time through their lack of info, I was spurred to finish it. Thank you @schnumn.bsky.social and Leeds Special Autism Services for their input!

We've put together a What to Expect Guide at Thought Bubble Comic Convention 2026 for those who are Autistic, have anxiety, sensory issues, access needs or generally just like to know what to expect! Take a look: thoughtbubblefestival.com/whattoexpect

I cannot fully get my head around repeatedly seeing people catapult themselves in to the sun in an attempt to frame AI as something that can be positive. Right now, the use of AI, generative or otherwise, is unethical. End of conversation. You know what is true right now? We don't need to use it.

We don't need to engage. We are not missing out. We don't need to do this mental agility to find good in it. What we do need: a united stance against its use. AI billionaires do not care and asking nicely for some changes please, or attempting to work with them, will do nothing. It is pointless.

I often think about the time I signed off a customer service reply email with "Thank you, Chloe", and the person emailed back to say their name wasn't Chloe, and I had to reply and say "Yes, but it is my name...."

Beloved - Toni Morrison Sethe is told not to love too much, because Black enslaved people are lost too easily. But she does, and is haunted by it, mentally and physically. A book that peels apart layers of trauma which slavery left behind through generations and communities, and makes you look.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I don’t often write about books I didn’t enjoy, not all books are for everyone. But helllllll. I should have DNF’d this, but I didn’t so I guess I’m the fool but I don’t want anyone else to fall into the trap.

The Catch - Yrsa Daley-Ward This book is terrible. I kept reading hoping for some redeeming factors. There are none. Badly edited, in both pacing and grammar, badly written overall, messy story, could have been a decent YA book premise if it was stripped back and started again. Don’t read.

People who use Ai are the slimiest of people. It makes my gut wretch that people can be so short sighted as to use it to side-step hiring actual people OR actually up skilling yourself. Imagining paying people for their labour! Imagine learning! Imagining critical thinking!

Tables tables tables. It’s all we got!

The Safekeep - Yael Van Der Wouden Isabel’s life is drenched in deep sadness, heavy with grief and melancholy and isolation. The jolt into love feels naive and dangerous. It goes way beyond what I expected... The writting is powerful and intense with feeling, touch, sound, taste. The revelations!!
