Bath to Weston Super-Mare along the Limestone link this weekend. Calling at a friends in Carlincott, the pubs in Litton and Rowberrow before the final leg to Weston and a train back to London

When will contestants learn that ‘intelligence’ is a huge liability. If you’re seen to be clever you’ll be suspected by the Faithful - “she’d make such a good Traitor” and Traitors - “she’s dangerous” - alike. Bumbling but affable, well intentioned incompetence - these are the winning qualities.

MCU movies just pass through you leaving no trace. Doing Doomsday prep rewatch of some with my teen. I KNOW I’ve seen them but… I’ve got nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Sweden. The only country in the world where you can spend £2,500 a week on a house rental but they still expect you to bring your own bedding. From overseas. Like fly your fucking duvet over with you.

Unpopular opinion: there should be a general election if there’s a new pm. I hated it when the tories did it and I hate now it’s electorally convenient for ‘my team’. No one voted for Burnham to be PM. He wasn’t even a candidate at the last election.

Properly trained dogs are a delight, the problem is that most urban dog owners are absolutely useless. Being on your phone pretending you didn’t see your dog crap everywhere. Zero control. Poo bags in trees. Why!!!!? We see you urban dog owners. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

theguardian.com‘She compared her dachshund to my newborn baby’: should you be able to take your dog everywhere? They’re in restaurants, offices and supermarkets – there’s even a petition to let them on flights to the UK. But not everyone is happy about the growing number of dogs in public places

"If your friend jumped under a bus would you do it?" age old parental lesson we all learn at nursery to warn us off copying the stupidest antics of our friends just for clout. It's now UK foreign policy and yet...the British press are telling us, yes - we should in fact jump under the bus. Madness.

Kid in my son’s class turned up for world book day dressed in a fat suit, brandishing a copy of the Guinness Book of World Records and said he was the fattest man alive.

Intrigued by this UK police report about Apple security @snell.zone “Gangs offer the most money for the… Apple phones, … Met believes are less protected … easier to ship overseas and to reactivate for… China…Samsung phones were worth less because they were harder to reactivate for use overseas.”

I made this, as one course of five, On Christmas Day! ‘Made’ doing heavy lifting here. Assembled more like. Really fun though - it’s like food LEGO. Everything in little numbered pots and vac packs.

Checked in on my 14yo son expecting him to be gaming instead of doing his art project. Discovered him listening to Christopher Hitchens reading God Is Not Great. He’s also currently reading The Book of Dust trilogy. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

😠 Unsubbed in infantile Dorian protest 🥰 Resubbed after hearing Musk call for violent overthrow of UK gov and realised chipping in the price of a Shoreditch coffee to a bunch of progressive voices is literally the least I can do to forward our shared values @ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social

If The Met was taken over by the government, troops deployed to London streets and the assumption that this would be rolled out across the country… I’m not sure we’d shrug and carry on with business as usual. Just me?

Pool lanes. A rant. There is an undercurrent of lane politics at the lido that is worthy of a phd. As I have nothing better to do ( other than pour another rose ) let me try and outline the features of this this… minefield for BlueSky

in awe of the woman who went to shout at the teenage lifeguard at the pool because "I'm too slow for the fast lane but too fast for the medium lane" and was trying to get her to move some of us medium people to the slow lane for her convenience, a level of entitlement rarely witnessed in the wild

This has two effects. 1. It drives the regulars apoplectic - for breast stroke can never be ‘very fast’. 2. It empties all the thrashers out of ‘fast’ into ‘very fast’ leaving the lane empty but for people that actually swim at a reasonably consistent speed.

This then is the Lido lane lesson. Judge the people not the lane. Look for consistency and swim in that one. Change lanes often to maintain consistency and don’t worry about the locals. You’ll never crack their code anyway.

This results in two things. 1. Lane speeds are a shit show. 2. The regulars are constantly annoyed about everything all the time and express this in the time honoured British fashion of side eyes, passive aggression and tutting.

Finally point. From a human psychology perspective no-one wants to be ‘medium’. So ‘fast’ is chock full of dawdling scullers and thrashing imbeciles. My personal approach is to go VERY early to avoid thrashers and be chaotic good by doing breast stroke in the ‘VERY fast’ lane. Yes! You heard me.

Problem three. Agents of lane speed chaos. I’ll give you two extremes. First the ‘slow’ woman ( and, sorry but yes - it’s always a woman ), hair above water, wearing shades, going VERY slowly in the ‘medium’ lane. She remains absolutely oblivious to everyone else sculling past her.

Next - dad bod Olympian (ALWAYS a man) He crawls ferociously for one length, barging & kicking past people for one length. Realising he can’t keep it up but has to save face on length two and keeps going. This he does (just about) by slowing to ‘medium’ to avoid an embolism.

Fundamentally the lane ratings are based on relative terms. What is ‘fast’? What is ‘very’ fast? What is slow or medium? It’s all relative. That’s problem one. Problem two. People.

There is a cohort of Lido user that believe that THEY are in possession of lane speed ‘truth’. They alone have the secret. For them, lane speeds are not relative. They are absolute. They themselves are a physical embodiment of lane speed. A universal constant of lido lore.

When did the entire non populist UK political class just decide to give up making the case for ANYTHING. When has leaning into populist positions ever worked? For anyone. Apart from the populists. Left and right moderates need to grow a spine and start making the case for immigration & net zero

#Andor S2 spoilers ahead buuuut… two eps in and I’ve got red flags… 🚩Cassian is incompetent now apparently because ‘the script says so’. Fails to pilot a Tie, gets captured like a chump 🚩No way viciously ambitious Dedra shacks up with Syril. 🤞it improves but these two really threw me off

@snell.zone Bebuttoned Kindles are a hill I will die on. I got through the touchbar MBPro’s era by keeping faith with my 13” 2015 Pro until I maxed out an M1 in 2021. Same approach with Kindle buttons. I’m locked in for 2030 with stockpiled reconditioned 10th gen Oasis. Pray for my battery health.

Apple Mail is hot garbage. ‘Send Later’ feature straight up does not work. Worse, it silently fails and loses data #apple I queued up a bunch of mails to go out the next morning and got in with my life. Next day, there are all the mails still waiting to go out. Then they’re gone but not sent.

What is that strange golden disk in the sky!!!! Such a welcome sight after what feels like weeks of gloom. Shot this on my morning walk just now in response to a recent shot of the same view
