If only Apple could come up with some sort of virtual way for developers to test their apps without having to have hands on a physical device. I always wonder if these kinds of posts are legit or just engagement farming.

I'd appreciate this more if I didn't know that it comes oh so close to realizing that the industry is doing it all over again with AI but stops short of calling it out.

This but literally everything that I do. It's a miracle it took until my 40s to realise I have inattentive ADHD!

Real life it happened to me. Someone interrupted me while i was locked in writing a draft and now it’s gone and I may as well pack it up for the day 😭😭😭

For those who follow me there, yes, my Mastodon account was compromised last night. It turns out my password wasn't as strong as it should have been and I inexplicably didn't have 2FA enabled (enabled 2FA, kids!). Looks like someone reported it, so thankfully it's been suspended.

I've reached out to support so we'll see how easy it is to get it back. I've been able to sign in and add 2FA, but I can't change the password or log clients out, presumably while it's suspended 🤷🏻‍♂️. To be honest, with using Indigo, I'm not even sure how many people I interact with there or on BSky.

These are the people Gruber says are welcoming to him. I hope they're never welcoming to me.

On X, users have circulated nonconsenual AI videos created by Grok of a woman they think is Jane Doe. They continue to spread her name. People have praised X for staying relevant for AI and tech conversation. But it also is the main vector for a doxing. That is X. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/16/n...

X has made a comeback with some communities, namely AI and tech, but it is not Twitter of old. On X, users have been spreading the name of a woman they think is Cornell's Jane Doe. One particular post doxed a woman's address and phone numbers and was viewed 1.4 million times.

I spent 14 hours yesterday trying to work out why the youngest's laptop wasn't loading certain websites reliably — websites he needed for school 🙄. Multiple resets, DNS changes, and general fiddling later and I gave in and factory reset the router. Fixed (🤷🏻‍♂️) and nice and fast to boot!

Here's a question for people who think the HomeView needs an App Store: Is that because there are one or two apps you wish were there? Or because you want to install 100 like your iPhone? Bonus question: how many third-party apps do you actually use on your Apple Watch?

Is…. is that a bubble I just heard pop?

The 4th gen Apple TV 4K at $299 is obscene. It's the best streaming box around, but let's be honest, at that price people should just use the shitty apps built into their TV instead.

I've been playing DomeKeeper Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall on the iPhone 18 Pro Max and they've both been great. But all it's done is remind me how much better they'd be on a bigger display. If only there was an iPhone with a bigger display that was also small enough to still fit in a pocket.

Just noticed this. For something that I’m making up as I go along each week, this is nice to see. Thank you.

I saw someone say that anyone getting an iPhone Duo should remember that it doesn't have an Action Button. And that reminded me that the iPhone I was reading it on had an Action Button. Only time I ever press it is when I'm trying to turn the volume up 😳

A lot is made of the iPhone 18 Pro Max rear cameras. But the selfie camera shouldn't be forgotten - the days of front cameras sucking are very much behind us.

It's funny-not-funny that the situation EA and the Saudis are in right now is also the same way people have to buy consoles and PCs to play their games.

Debt on debt on debt on debt.

I prefer to pretend I'm not English these days. My "patriotic" peers make it embarrassing to admit I am.

Being a writer is great, your job is just words and every time you see the slightest edit in a google doc you get to think that everyone hates you actually

After a huge launch push, it seems Unforgetful is basically broken at the moment. Which is a shame, because it was really useful while it worked. People are having notifications not fire, changes to tasks not being reflected until the app is force quit and restarted, etc. 😞

"Founder" is not how you spell "grifter." Anyone goes anywhere near that machine, they need their head checking. Bet he's got a digital picture of a monkey to sell, too.

It's as if there's some sort of correlation between that lot, and the AI grifters. It was where everyone had to be to talk about crypto and NFTs, too.

I feel for @caseynewton.bsky.social here. Unfortunately the far right website is also the website where the bulk of AI discourse happens. It’s regrettably important that journalists are there.

If Apple wasn't normally so happy to Sherlock apps, my conspiratorial side would suggest something is afoot. Unfortunately, I think it's just that Apple never seems to stick the landing anymore.

I find it very strange how Apple fell *just* short with Passwords. So close to being a full 1Password replacement.

I'm not saying Amazon's website is having a Prime Day meltdown, but its TV category turns into comics and records half way down and then goes back to TVs at the end. Gives you nothing but confidence for AWS, doesn't it?

Just given the youngest boy his first pork scratching and he says it tastes like a dog treat. And now I only have one child. Will make Christmas cheaper, at least.

Here's a question for the Americans that comes up every so often and just reared its head in a podcast — why do you say tires/tyres instead of wheels? As in "the car was on its roof instead of on its tires" etc? One of those differences between UK/US English that always intrigues me.

I can't remember who said it or where, but I remember reading that someone being endlessly cynical and pessimistic is not them being insightful or analytical about their subject. Whoever it was is right. They just make their entire identity that of a misery determined to suck all joy out of life.

Exhibit A: Someone writes a lengthy piece explaining their feelings and someone decides it denies rape culture exists. I'll send a fresh cookie to the first person to find where it says that in the text. Because it doesn't. Conversation about this is healthy. But people are bullied away from it.

Flora 🍓🏳️‍⚧️@floramerigold.bsky.social

While I do not intend to edit or add to my article, I do think several people have mistakenly interpreted that I somehow deny rape culture's existence or its severity here. Geller absolutely should have faced swifter, more severe punishment. The fact that even he agrees should speak for itself.

To be clear, before I finally go to bed: none of this is to say I condone what the guy did. Because of course I don't. Wondering what happens next for the guy is not the same as saying he should be given a pass. No matter who tries to out-righteous you into thinking it is.

I've no real interest be dragged into a messy situation that nothing good can come from. But this touches on something that I've been pondering. "A society that claims to believe people can change must construct some imaginable future for people who actually do." We must walk the walk.

Flora 🍓🏳️‍⚧️@floramerigold.bsky.social

Yesterday's news about Jacob Geller broke my heart, so much that I couldn't stop dwelling on it all day. In an effort to make sense of this horrific news and my admittedly complicated feelings about it, here is my article on the Jacob Geller situation: epiloguegaming.com/what-do-we-d...

Instead, we find ourselves (by that, I mean the left) desperately trying to show we're more morally sound than the next guy. That isn't unique to this situation. It's why anyone who isn't deemed to be sufficiently outraged is automatically labeled as a monster. They aren't "left enough."

iOS/iPad app developers, can you clear something up that might seem obvious for me? Universal apps were supposed to make it easier for iPhone apps to be turned into iPad and then Mac apps. Will this work for iPhone Duo? How easy is it to make your apps Duo-ready?

I was just saying this to my wife. Thought I'd opened the wrong URL. Madness.
