I am a massive Cheesecake Factory fan and shareholder so I don’t want to know why they’ve entered the discourse and I’ve never had a bad meal at one (I’ve had meals I didn’t like but that’s different from “prepared poorly”).

My only Cheesecake Factory take is that their commitment to scratch cooking (literally everything is made from raw ingredients inside the restaurant, no offsite prep or pre-packaging) is cool.

Notably, this vote is not happening when the people who would be most likely to ride transit during those times is either awake...or off work to come give public comment about how they need or want that transit service. 3pm on a Thursday is not accessible public comment time.

The Sound Transit board is about to vote on a 2027 service plan that starts 2 Line service 25 minutes later every day and ends it 15 minutes earlier Mon-Saturday to provide more time for system maintenance. Claudia Balducci jumped in to say that the agency's goal should be running trains 24/7.

A few people I really like and respect (and who I thought were at least chill with me) are getting really annoyed at @electioncheatsheet.org which is a project I help with and would have been happy to talk to any or all of them about and I'm a little disappointed nobody just sent an email to ask 😕

we are so back. Well...kinda. Sometimes Discord now thinks I am in the UK and am under 18 so half of the servers and most DMs and friends list are unavailable but...lol. bsky.app/profile/oowm...

Coming up on 48 hours since Discord ate my account :( (This is what I get for pushing buttons...namely, what would happen if I deleted the phone number from my profile and the answer is SuSpIcIoUs.)

This is cool but did you know that organizations in Seattle (or across the ORCA service region) can sign up for ORCA Business Passport for a fraction of the cost of buying a regular monthly pass? The *most expensive* zone is $2,167 PER YEAR for a biz with five employees. We should require this.

Yes, a company has to front up for enough cards to cover all of their full-time employees and yes there's a five-card minimum. But again, the most expensive zone is $430 PER YEAR. It drops off dramatically as you get outside the CBD with the lowest in Seattle (far north) at $140.

This is actually where a sizable chunk of our fare revenue comes from, large employers buying transit cards for all of their FTEs as a way of meeting their Commute Trip Reduction Act requirements and as a valuable perk for their staff. Requiring it of all employers would be equitable, imho.

This is $430/year/card and the pass covers EVERY transit except the big boi ferries. Plus, orgs can have "cost sharing" with their employees/contractors/volunteers of up to 50%, so each would split it $215 PER YEAR apiece. UNDER $20/MONTH. It's the best deal in transit and more biz should play.

If you want to see this on a bigger scale, go to Thornton Place (it's just east of the train station, you'll love it, now you can get ice cream) and carefully note where the trees are...and are not. You can see it *very well* from an overhead view.

Unless somebody kept the receipt and Kiewit has a really good return policy, imho the time for dunking on Pinehurst Station has passed. It's built, now we upzone the heck out of the area & take a bulldozer to the fence around the soon-to-be-former golf course so the rest of us get to use the spot.

If you want to argue Pinehurst shouldn't be built, you'll need a time machine and I will disagree with you back then the same as I do now. If you want to *now* argue that Graham Street should be built and sooner, we are in lockstep and I look forward to tabling that Opening Day soon, too.

Well, WSDOT has decided to play the "those annoying workers, whining about pay, here are the REAL* NUMBERS" card and...well, I suppose that's a strategy they can try. * absolute best-case scenario for like, a few people

Elections mean things, the Mayor of Seattle and King County Executive are at the Graham Street block party saying we want to keep building transit things. What a change from the first block party last year.

Because Sound Transit insists that the 545 is a mandatory urgent service which causes the 542 to suffer for it, I get to make this same choice: do I take the every-22ish-minute bus to work and save 18 minutes on the trip? Or the every-8-minute train that goes the looooong way around the barn?

#WeekWithoutDriving day 2: Non-drivers shape their travel patterns around the bus schedule. My bus to work comes about every 25 minutes, so every morning I am going into the office I assess which bus I can take. It varies based on how my daughter gets to school. Another time cost is planning.

The two Sound Transits: To people who are starting in downtown/SLU and have the exact same travel time to the Eastside whether by 2 Line or 545: "Bus comes every 10 minutes!" To people who are north of the ship canal and would benefit by going across 520: "eh, every 20ish minutes is fine."

Hey, Seattle folks! I will be at the Northgate Barnes & Noble this Friday from 6pm until I'm not! This is a ticketed event, and I will have pins and possibly stickers as a thank you gift for folks who pick up a book and come out to see us! www.eventbrite.com/e/seanan-mcg...

1,000% this. Humans are *fallible* even when we don't mean to be. And we mean to be *a lot*. This is why I can never, will never advocate, encourage, or even wish for the death of another. It's not for any of us to decide that for someone. We do not have the skill to wield the ultimate weapon.

Who have the two best autographs in the history of baseball and why are they both Expos players? (This post is likely bait for two mutuals and I make no apologies)

I am amused at how easy Starbucks makes boycotting them. Two locations I walk by semi-regularly now have signs up, “our cafe is closed but our drive-thru remains open”. Both signs “apologize for the inconvenience”. Cutting off people who didn’t drive seems unwise for a company that wants business.

I'm moving the email of an org I volunteer with over to a new hosted email system and looking through the myriad domains in here, I love all of my fellow nerds. There are a lot of Gmail dot com addresses, of course. But those of you with your own domains? Almost none are at Gmail! Endearing.

(I'm trying to figure out why the platform we've switched to is sending emails only to Gmail dot com via the "high risk outbound" pool but emails to a domain hosted at Gmail but not gmail dot com go via the "regular outbound" pool. Seems to be a mystery! But they deliver so...whatever.)

In "honor" of the Mariners being eliminated, like should happen with the AL West: There are eight 2nd-place-and-below teams in the rest of baseball who would be winning the AL West if they were in the ALW instead of their actual divisions.

Five KBO teams would be leading the AL West by win percentage, two of them would be leading on outright wins and losses alone even though they've played 18 fewer games.

Three teams in the AAA Pacific Coast League and eight teams in the AAA International League would be leading the AL West if we had promotion and relegation like a proper sport.

Only one NPB team (Fukuoka S. Hawks) would be winning the AL West but they have also played 20 fewer games to this point. By win percentage, six NPB teams would be leading the AL West. There are twelve NPB teams.

Only twice in their history (1969, 52-110 and 1976, 55-107) did the Montréal Expos end a full-length season with a worse record than the worst team in the 2026 AL West. For nineteen seasons, the Expos would have won the AL West if they were in the ALW instead of Bud Selig Hell.

No other MLB division has every single team with a negative run differential. All five AL West teams are negative and the *least bad* negative differential belongs to the Texas Rangers at -40.

Ten teams would be if you give two teams a one-game "would have played each other and one has to win" bonus. Those two teams are the Baltimore Orioles and the Miami Marlins, ffs.

Only the NL West has a worst team (Colorado Rockies, 57-102) that is worse than our worst team (Anaheim Angels, 61-98).

You might be a gigantic networking nerd if the only indication you have that your regular home Internet connection went out is a push notification from your monitoring system telling you that your "home IP address" has changed to the backup cellular connection.
