feeling ambivalent about parties having settled an issue prior to their court hearing this morning -- I've been fighting a cold all week so I would have been a little groggy at 9:00 a.m., but who's to say that maybe I wouldn't have performed better than usual in a decongestant haze

wait, then who was the guy courtside wearing a bright orange fedora, orange-framed specs, and a white-and-orange striped zoot suit? how was zoot suit and fedora guy not Spike Lee?

Senator Schiff: my first stop was Alberta, the only province seeking to separate from the Confederation [*] also Senator Schiff: please start buying our wines again [*] this is "secede from the Union" in American

My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines. I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.

I'm reminded of that period of 5-odd months between graduation and getting your license when you really shouldn't put "Esq." next to your name, but there's always some number of new J.D.'s who don't wait for their bar card and I.D. number

I really don't care if a law school grad wants to flippantly call themselves a lawyer among their friends and family, but we're a self-regulating profession and any time it veers into the professional ambit we need to nuke it from orbit.

(I'm also reminded of jurisdictions where they think it's hilariously pretentious to put "Esq." next to your name after you get your bar card and I.D. number)

In the spirit of the phrase "resident alien for tax purposes" and me thinking Resident Alien sounds like a movie, add "for tax purposes" to the end of a movie title: My Own Private Idaho for Tax Purposes

OMG she is brutally bad at this

haven't read any Dickens since high school, thought I'd give Bleak House a run since it's the one about the lawsuit placed the library hold online, didn't realize that it wasn't 2 copies -- it was 2 volumes thank you, circulation librarian, for not laughing at me when I picked up only volume 1

couple of projects still ongoing, and now I'm torn between "dang, we sure had a short summer after a long, chilly, wet spring" and "for the love of all that is good and holy, bring on the first snowstorm of winter and shut it all down right now"

opadit@opadit.bsky.social

there have been 3 separate road and building construction projects going on outside my office since the first day this summer that I was able to open my window, just no peace at all between jackhammers, table saws, cherry pickers, ground compactors, pile drivers, air nailers, backhoes on concrete

the best part is that the cops won't have any lead time to grease up the light poles

All due respect to our great blue cities across the nation - all wonderful places to be! - but nowhere is going to deliver on the Day When It Finally Happens like our hatin’ asses in Philadelphia.

dispiriting to see an out-of-office reply from a lawyer where (a) I know they are actually back in the office; and (b) they haven't changed the expected return date from the OOO reply that they drafted for holiday some months ago (a) stop lying 😆 (b) OMG learn how to use your office software

Not my reddit post, but I read it as the panel will discuss WHAT needs to happen to educate people ignorant of trans rights, including elected officials, and perhaps discuss urgent challenges we must focus on. We completely agree it's not a debate: Trans rights are human rights. Full stop.

trying to square the LAR-PHI score I'm seeing on ESPN dot com with the amount of screaming I'm seeing here on the Philly sports app (the game is not on our cable feed this sad, sad weekend)

why? who wants this? when I open a PDF, why, for the love of all that is good and holy, is it the default that there are 2 sub-windows and an ad obscuring the text that I'm trying to read?

BREAKING WSJ: The Trump Justice Department is reviewing whether the special prosecutor's office that investigated Watergate committed misconduct. A revisionist historian went to DOJ HQ to present his case that Richard Nixon and his associates weren't treated fairly.

the guy leading this, Geoff Shepard, is "a former Nixon aide turned Watergate historian" who spends his time as a "revisionist" when he could be spending his time with, like, his grandkids ... and OMG, Wikipedia says he lives in Rose Valley, Delco

Going in front of the UN and wondering if you should genocide a country while simultaneously preparing devastating economic sanctions against the only international body that can do anything about it is the kind of baller move you can only pull off in a capitalist 'liberal democracy', kudos to us

update: I did NOT finish drafting this affidavit before the game started but I did bake some bread for the freezer, caught up on a specific housework task that needed done, and met a family obligation today -- believe it or not, that stuff wasn't procrastination

so help me I WILL finish drafting this affidavit before the game starts, hashtag go Birds
