Join our webinar on how to approach working with a new animal model - June 29th, 4PM CEST! We will share practical advice on how to select a proper model, how to learn about its ecology and behaviour and how to avoid common pitfalls!

And in the second part of the first day we had a talk by Ben Larson and Thibaut Brunet on behavioural complexity of ciliates and the evolution of neural properties of cells in eukaryotes.

We are happy to announce the first workshop in our new series: Back to Basics! The goal of this series is to take a fresh look at the basic assumptions held in our field. In the first workshop, we will ask the most fundamental question: What is a neuron?

What properties should a cell have to be defined as such? Can we clearly define a biological neuron? How many times did neurons evolve? What defines a neuron during development? What is a neuron in an artificial network?

We will try to answer those questions during our workshop! Itwill be held in the spirit of our Schools of Ideas—with an informal atmosphere, open exchange of thoughts and perspectives, in-depth talks, and plenty of space for discussion—more info here - www.nenckiopenlab.org/neuron

We are super happy to announce the fifth edition of our Transatlantic Behavioural Neuroscience School, that will be held Aug 11-22nd in Poland! Join us to learn everything you need to build your behavioural setup with open source tools!

We were extremely saddened to hear about the departure of Adam Kampff. He influenced our work in countless ways—both directly and indirectly—and he will remain a source of inspiration for years to come. Thank you for everything.

The deadline for registration is tomorrow!

Arshad Desai and Suckjoon Jun write in their paper about the topic we will discuss in December on our workshop - Why are there neuroscientists? We want to know how the stories we tell ourselves - and others - about our reasons to do science correspond to "real" motives!

We are happy to announce our first workshop in the new academic year! Visit us in Heidelberg on Oct 17th to learn how to Bonsai programming language to collect data, control your experimental environment and run closed-loop paradigms! The workshop is free of charge!

During the workshop, you will learn how to navigate the DeepLabCut workflow, annotate your data properly, select the right model backbone, train it, and evaluate its performance. You will also learn how to preprocess and structure your data for advanced behavioral analysis!
