The most sickening thing is not that Elon Musk is pumping hundreds of millions into the midterm elections. The most sickening thing is that this doesn't make even a dent on his grotesque fortune, which means he will continue to abuse the power his wealth provides him.

Sam Harris dismisses being in that secret club organized by David Duke because those events are not a big deal, just some TED-light stuff and other lefties are there too. Oh sorry I misspoke, Dialog is not led by David Duke, but Peter Thiel. Who is 10 times worse.

Ideas to use the Trump Reflecting Pool! 1. Public urinal for the homeless 2. Waste disposal for chemical plants in region 3. Freak science experiments like breeding Godzilla 4. Fill it with gasoline for 4th of July fireworks 5. Kitten Drowning Facility for oligarch's children

I only watched the free intro of this interview since I stopped paying for Sam Harris's podcast years ago, and that was after many years doing so because SH was the one pundit that I agreed with 90% but it's been downhill since he started mutating into the new Bill Maher: a 🧵

Perhaps I failed to see the early warnings. Like Harris's admiration for Hitchens. Yeah I also embarked on that boat of New Atheism, Hitchens was an an intellectual genius with this one position I agreed. But he was also also a neo-con warmonger. The overall package was bad.

As for SH, it's not only the friendships but his own bad ideas growing increasingly stale and radical. Namely, his "anti-woke" obsession not behind any MAGA grifter, and his idiotic understanding of Islamic religion as a cause of unique and unprecedented savagery. 🔚

We have the country's premier Trump Hater throwing lifeboats to ex-MAGAs. "I voted for conservative policies, woke commies would be worse etc". Picture: ex-MAGA influencer searching his favorite article of the US Constitution. Something about free speech or women's sports...

Tbf Ben Shapiro may be the rare sincere exception. This guy would 100% vote for literal Adolf Hitler reincarnated if he upheld his policies on abortion, taxes, Israel, DEI; and the alternative was a "Woke Democrat" like Kamala. I don't Godwin-Law it cavalierly, he TOTALLY would.

I predicted Ben Shapiro was next but I'm not right yet. Or I didn't get Harris was never a true liberal. Always too friendly with the "well-behaved Right", still dreams with a Romney presidency. Also with the rich like Elon or famous like Rogan; he likes to be in that jet-set.

Why is Shapiro back to SH's pod after a long absence (AFAIK)? Well the MAGA ship is sinking–again. Rats like Candace, Tucker, Megyn, even Alex Jones are fleeing. Seeking bleach for their reputation. Here comes Sam Maher normalizing those people for his center-liberal audience.

I have observed many times that it's rare the year Sam Harris doesn't shed some ex-ally that turns out a fascist or worse: people like Dave Rubin, Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, the Weinstein bros, Maajid Nawaz... the man has broken picker that's truly comical.

CONCLUSIONS. I didn’t have time for a full analysis of FSR/RR denoising quality but it definitely looks better, even if not yet as good as DLSS/RR. FSR upscaling quality also looks better than before but it still degrades with the static camera, this is a game integration bug.

But it is also clear Pearl Abyss’s use of SPOM (Silhouette Parallax Occlusion Mapping = its Displacement option) is a train wreck. Sorry, good experiment but it causes too many issues / also demonstrated by major reviews. You should set it to Off. Kill it with fire.🔚

That kind of artifact looks like nitpicking but it’s common and noticeable when there's more sharp detail and contrast. I observed this previously: only with a static camera there’s something off with FSR’s temporal accumulation (and I’m 100% sure it’s the game’s fault not FSR).

See also in the red area a halo around the bow string, only with moving camera. This is a common artifact of upscalers, even the best. It illustrates how upscaling quality should ALWAYS improve in a static scene. The opposite occurring like in the yellow area is HIGHLY abnormal!

For a fair comparison, here’s two fullscreen images with FSR/AA and Displacement = Off. The only difference is FSR/RR enabled in the second shot, and the difference of quality is big (it’s not just denoising; this game does its better RT only with some AI denoiser enabled).

To finish: FSR/P+RR Displacement = Off on both sides, but Left = image captured with the camera moving slowly; Right = captured after a couple seconds of camera at rest. The right image shows worse Upscaling/AA in some places like the thin, straight groove in the yellow area.

If you look at the hexagonal tiles the two images also have differences in raised blocks. Both are pixel-exact in positioning: I took a screenshot, brought the menu to change upscaling level, took a screenshot. It just changes randomly. This Displacement causes all sorts of pain.

Now let’s enable FSR Ray Regeneration. It works great, e.g. note the shadow stripes in the left half. The top image still looks like shite but it’s not because of the denoiser; compare to the lower image which is FSR/AA+RR and also setting Displacement = Off: awesome result.

So let’s go back… here I enabled FSR4.1: Top = AA-Only, Bottom = Performance. AA-Only looks great except the yellow region with the stone edge badly aliased, that’s because the grass moves a lot (possibly without fine-grained motion vectors? But even with MV it’s harder).

Worse than that is the red area in the bottom image. Performance-level upscaling does a good job in some regions like the hexagonal tiles, even the grass. But in those raised stones with Displacement = High the edges often have awful “sawtooth”, smearing, and other artifacts.

In the lower image (Displacement = High) those chamfers are more rounded. The stones in general look worn out, weathered: way more realistic. However, look also at the parts in red circles where we can see very odd changes of color. This is not intentional, it’s a rendering bug.

This was covered already by reviewers, like Digital Foundry showing how this interacted badly with DLSS/RR. The game was patched to improve those problems somewhat and also to add an option to control the level of Displacement because it still causes all sorts of artifacts.

4K Max, Native, 9070 XT. 400% zoom (16:1 in pixels). Look at the reliefs in the “walkway”: that’s a mix of geometry and Displacement mapping. For example, the edges highlighted in yellow have a straight 45% chamfer in geometry (upper image, Displacement = Off).

I finished Hannibal. And wow. What a shitshow. This started well, decided to try this mostly because big fan of Mads. Season 1 was good. Then S2 starts and WTF is gong on, it seems new direction takes over and it's someone with pretensions of Kubrick or Fellini. 🧵

But I persevered and finished two seasons of slow scenes and zooms, pretentions symbolism, fantastic realism, incredibly slow dialogue, rehashed plots, more filler than One Piece. And it had some great ideas but really both S2 and S3 could be 3-4 episodes tops.

I also watched the movie trilogy with Stephen Hopkins when they came out. I'm not sure which adaptation is truer to the books (haven't read any), normally a show like this is more complete but if that was the case then the books just aren't very good. 🔚

If we ever get out of this mess, Americans should realize returning to pre-Trump status is NOT enough to restore a modern democracy. The reason this happened is that the system was NOT good. You only thought it was because the US had an amazing run, much of it by dumb luck. 🧵

9. Highly deregulated, market-driven media. Thanks Bill Clinton that one's largely on you, the Telecom Act of 1996 destroyed this country. We now can choose which news to get from something like 3 groups, each of the three owned by a different Nazi oligarch.

10. Highly deregulated, market-driven capitalism. That's the crazy Wall St casino, the Too Big To Fail banks, the tax system, the anti-labor/union environment and ideology, etc. Direct cause of #2, #8, and #9 & indirect reason other items can't be fixed.🔚

7. Other aspects of a weak federation / States Rights BS, for example all debate about Voter ID. Yes it's a good idea... if the ID in question is issued by the Union and every fucking district in the country is forced to make it extremely easy to get, eg via USPS branches.

8. Money in politics: from legalized lobbying to Citizens United. Real democracies see this stuff like we picture third-world shitholes where everyone openly bribes cops on the streets and and judges or politicians have daily deliveries of suitcases with cash.

2. A dual-party system. We love to point at the monopolistic party of communist countries, well that's how real democracies see our system. 3. Supreme Court justices who are unelected AND have a lifetime seat AND get to invent new law apparently without restrictions. (See #1)

4. This ridiculous Electoral College. 5. The *possibility* of gerrymandering. 6. Decentralized election system, so an party that gets a local supermajority can ratfuck their elections (even for President thanks to #4 and #5) down to Russian standards.

List of things an effective democracy does NOT have: 1. A Constitution that fits on a paper napkin, because it leaves out all sorts of critical stuff; and is politically almost impossible to update (last amendment of any importance was passed in 1971).

All these people genuinely confused about the "dark side of the moon" not being dark are not a failure of our education system, they are simply evidence of the long cultural impact of the Best Album of All Time.

Monstrous racist. Still astounds me, even after more than ten years of relentless repetition. Just the worst person imaginable to be president.

* Lifetime support for housing and fiscal policies that make me a wealthy retiree. Market crashes? No problem, other people's taxes bail out the banks * Young people can't buy homes or colleges? Why can't they just pay for it with an entry-level unionized factory job like I did

* OH NOES the culture changed too much. My grandson has a boyfriend. Openly. In the army. I can't use the n-word, a Black guy is President and a bitch is next. Every phone service: "Dial 1 for English or 2 for Spanish". Let's fix this even if we have to vote for Hitler. The end.
