So, there was a recent wave of NextDoor proselytizers who decided to spam Bible posts in my 'hood against the Community Guidelines and were hostile to anyone who told them to stop because they were "doing God's work." I took great joy in developing a vibe-coded application that monitors...

...their individual accounts, analyzes every post they make, determines if it contains religious content, and then reports the post if it does. One person used a business account which is hard to get suspended, but I found out that 3 reports results in immediate post-deletion :)

Meanwhile, these folks are freaking out and telling the people "sitting around all day reporting them" to get jobs, etc.--when it's really just a bot and a few burner accounts doing what is TRULY God's work. All done with Zed's BigPickle model for free.

I've been having a pretty good time vibe-coding customized apps for my own personal use and gratification, but man if there aren't just hordes of people finding ways to ruin everything good in the FOSS world. turso.tech/blog/the-won...

The Red Cross claims it was founded it 1881, but if that's really the truth can someone explain why there's this photo of a Red Cross doctor trying to escape from a tomb circa 0 C.E.?

It's been ages since I've eaten at "Chinese" chain restaurants. Decided to grab some Pei Wei and have to say the "Asian" desserts are amusingly low-effort underwhelming: 1. Brownie (speaks for itself) 2. Thai Donuts (churros made "Asian" via condensed milk dip and the use use of Saigon cinnamon)

So today our self-proclaimed not-king: 1. Fired the panel tasked with reviewing the new ballroom/arch plans. 2. Murdered 14 people outside the US for ALLEGEDLY committing crimes that do not carry the death penalty in the US. 3. Received an actual crown from South Korea. #NoKings

Really proud of my neighbors in Flower Mound, TX. A few hundred came out to peacefully voice their concerns over the state of our country. Very limited police presence that I was thankful to see doing their job the right way. Worst projectiles I saw doing a few drive-bys were bubbles! 😃 #NoKings

Wait...did the Dark Lord just basically have his minions pull up a bunch of random Facebook videos to prove to the South African president that white genocide is occurring? Has the president sunk so low as to use the Thanksgiving ambush tactic?

Her article she posted in The Guardian is a real eye opening must read. She goes into detail of the treatment she experienced along with stories of others still trapped in the system: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

theguardian.comI’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnappedI was stuck in a freezing cell without explanation despite eventually having lawyers and media attention. Yet, compared with others, I was lucky

Ugh. The irony of a guy who self-describes himself as responsible for future-proofing State Farm against existential threats getting corralled into saying mind-numbingly dumb things on a Tinder date James O'Keefe sting...

Oh, good lord how are people still discussing Zelenskyy not wearing a suit at the White House? I'm more concerned that JD is wasting time and money putting on his emo eye makeup than I am amount some guy busy drumming up support for his country deciding not to wear a suit.

When you fire nuclear watchdogs accidentally because you're stripping components out of a system you don't understand that's supposed to make you question your approach--not be an "Oops" moment you learn nothing from. Elon Musk is incompetent and has no aversion to risk. Bad combo.

We're already in a housing crisis and have just had two massive disasters requiring innumerable homes to be rebuilt from the ground up... And our president slapped a 25% tariff on the main source of our lumber? What could go wrong?

Here's something fun: In 10 minutes, I'm going to start replying to this tweet (or whatever we call these here) with FREE video game codes for some REAL BANGERS. There's no catch. I receive many codes during awards season and many of them I don't need because I already have it etc. Please share!

3. I'm in Texas, and 2 weeks ago my home policy was non-renewed because of "possibly my roof or not meeting (some unspecified) underwriting guidelines"). So, I am with you, but I know it's because Progressive is incurring huge storm losses in my region. I hate their method, but not their need.

TLDR: People aren't suddenly getting cancelled due to the fires, and many insurers WANT to do the right thing, but simply can't afford to in California due to bad insurance regulations and massive losses caused by disasters that are only getting worse.

...it's not hard to say, "We apologize, but due to increasing risk of wildfire, we must reduce the number of customers we insure in high-risk areas in your state." 2. Increasing premiums isn't enough to solve this problem for obvious reasons: A.) people can't afford them. B.) Disasters are not...

...getting less frequent or less expensive. Industry and government MUST find ways to mitigate losses because money and resources are going to end up exhausted no matter who is providing them. We probably also need to find ways to reduce the cost of insurance to those with lower incomes.

6. Think about how dire California's situation is. My company stopped writing new policies in California a few years ago because we already passed the point where our business was at risk. We aren't just cancelling policies to be buttholes. We just can't do OUR job unless we pull back in CA.

Now....since I probably sound like an industry apologist at this point.... some points to the contrary. 1. Any insurer who dicks around with customers they're non-renewing by blaming "the roof", etc. and leads them into making repairs to their home that won't make them eligible is pathetic...

... didn't bother to seek insurance for whatever reason, or failed to get their property up to the standards for California's FAIR plans that are available for those who can't get private insurance. 5. Paying premiums one's whole life does not mean any insurer owes you for future losses...

...While good insurers appreciate and reward loyalty, they can't charge loyal customers $5000/year when they're costing the insurer 20000/year. When you pay your premium, you're paying for ONE year. Most of the money you pay covers OTHER people's losses that year. It is not "owed" to you.

That also means that we're trying to predict what rates should be 1.5 years from now AND they don't get approved, so we're not allowed to charge premiums that match the risk of insuring homes in the state. 3. It should be obvious, but if we can't charge the right premium and a catastrophic...

...event occurs, then we could go bankrupt like many insurers did back during hurricane Katrina. 4. Every homeowner who had their policy non-renewed was given a minimum of 75 days notice, so for them to be uninsured during this fire, they either made the choice not to insure their home,...

Now, onto some thoughts: 1. Insurers aren't pulling out suddenly. Insurers started pulling out years ago after they started incurring losses greatly exceeding the premium they could charge. 2. Exacerbating #1, the California government has been absolutely horrible to work with. When we file...

to change rates or adopt better models for rating/eligibility, the turnaround has been nearly 18 months on average. Worse, those filings are often rejected for arbitrary reasons and very little explanation, so analysts like me are left guessing what needs to be fixed to get the filing approved.

First, to understand my perspective, let's cover me: - Former scientist (too stressful) - 2 years in commercial underwriting (deciding if we should accept an applicant). - 3 years as a commercial insurance analyst - 4 years leading devs building commercial insurance apps. - Independent liberal

I feel like I'm watching the beginning of 3 Body Problem where a bunch of irrational zealots beat a physicist to death while crowds of people cheer basically because he's an "elite" We know virtually nothing about the CEO/killer, but everyone's happy b/c they don't like healthcare and he's elite.

I doubt this post will make me friends here based on sentiment, but let the record show I don't condone killing without clear justification. If we condone that, we open the doors to justifying the murder of ANYONE who has to take any unpopular action where harm is perceived.

Also, anyone who thinks socialized medicine would fix this needs to think more broadly. In socialized medicine, there will still be rationing of care because resources are finite. Someone will still make decisions that cause some to suffer or die. They just won't stand to profit as directly.

I think it's great that people can curate their feeds here to control what they're exposed to and engaging with, but If you choose to attack someone who isn't trolling and they respond a single time with courtesy and you respond with insults and then block them so they can't see it... Be better.

FWIW, My "sin" was thinking this: 1. That neither random CEOs nor minority children deserve to be arbitrarily murdered in cold blood. 2. That the fear that CEOs now face is not the same as the fear that minority children face. Ironically (for the blocker), I think minority children have it worse.

No, LinkedIn. I don't want to add the Cognitive Science professor I took 1 elective with in 2003 to my network. You've asked at least 100 times. Stop. Just Stop. Also don't want to add the post-doc who worked in the same lab for a month 18 years ago. Same goes for the guy who trained my dead dog.
