Hello #AncestryHour! How has your #genealogy reseach doing this week? Earlier today while waiting for the "later" hour, I was clearing files off my hard drive so I could install the new update to Evidentia.

This is a great thread! And all you have to do is look at the Golden State Valkyries to see what is possible when ownership takes the women's franchise as seriously as they do the men's franchise. 🏀

Mallory Moore@sexabolition.blog

The real unfair competition women are being forced into with men is having women's sports constantly separated off as a distinct event which is made to compete commercially with much better funded and socially and institutionally enfranchised men's sporting events & found inadequate by that standard

#Ballhalla packed to the rafters with fans of all genders, with seats empty only because the scalpers got to the tickets first and blocked out fans that otherwise would have had seats. Fans overflowing sports bars in the City. Golden State Warriors coaches and players in the stands. It's glorious!

#genealogy #FamilyHistory I agree completely, I do not want AI in the new version of #FamilyHistorian. However, the *beauty* of the new FH is this: Don't want AI assistant? Don't install the plugin for it. That's it. No fishing about turning off settings. Just don't add it.

This could be a #genealogy goldmine for a few lucky people.

Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Amateur genealogy is spending several hours looking at period illustrations of horses, long after you've found that perfect period illustration of the breed of horse your ancestor owned 200 years ago. Because horse illustrations, what's not to like?

Reminder to North American* friends: the UK has already switched their clocks back, so #AncestryHour and #GenHour will be an hour *later* to us this week than we usually see them. Next week, after we've fallen back, we'll be in sync again. * Arizona & other places that don't do DST, I salute you

#GPFigure #GPFrance #NBC #FigureSkating Absolutely sick burn from Terry Gannon in the intro to the men's free skate broadcast. Rating: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

#FigureSkating #GPFigure #GPFrance Okay, I'll say it. Guillaume Cizeron is a one-note skater. It's like watching the ice dance equivalent of a singles skater who does multiple seasons with the same basic program composition and only changes his costume and music.

#FigureSkating #GPFigure #GPFrance I'd rather watch teams like Caroline Green and Michael Parsons, or Christina Carriera and Anthony Ponomarenko, who I can count on to bring me programs which are *interesting*. P.S. to Chris Howarth: Pate and Bye's program was lovely, what were you smoking?

#FigureSkating #GPFigure #GPFrance WTAF Leah and Artem? Claire de Lune isn't good enough for you? You have to make it part of a slop sandwich? 🤮

#GPFigure It's like that story I saw on AITA where a guy took his date to one of his favorite restaurants but she couldn't eat any of the food without putting ranch dressing on everything.

#GPFigure #GPFrance #FigureSkating Bordet and Chardain look like a guy was going to a #StarWars con and on the way he dragged his girlfriend out of a fancy-dress party against her will. Or maybe her costume got lost on the way to the competition and she had to borrow someone else's dress.

#GPFigure #FigureSkating I put off watching the Free Dance until almost the last minute. Avoiding watching Johnny and Tara as long as possible too. I'll be glad to be free of this hideous host broadcaster for #GPFrance. Looking forward to (maybe) seeing programs later in the season.

#GPFigure #FigureSkating #GPFrance Have we seen an entire spin from start to finish anywhere in the competition without some cinematographic catastrophe? If I had video-editing chops, I would make a bunch of "if [sport] were broadcast like figure skating" reels and post them to mock the ISU.

#GPFigure Maybe if someone took a speed skating race and made an utter hash of the video from it, the ISU would get a clue. Probably not, though. 🤷

#FigureSkating #GPFigure Someone tell the absolute butcher who is directing the #GPFrance broadcast: Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberries.

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

Also: it's time for #GPFigure so that means more too-overly-kind gaslighting commentary from Chris Howarth. Don't try to tell me a skater covered up his crappy exit from the 2nd element of his combo when I was calling it out in realtime. kthxbye

#FigureSkating #GPFigure #GPFrance Am I the only one who wants to rip Adam Siao Him Fa's shirt off (and not in a fangirl way)? All he needs is a little oval name tag saying "Adam" and he'd look like a gas station attendant. Not what I would choose if I were skating to Take Five by Brubeck.

Trying to watch #GPFigure but the director of GP France isn't cooperating. I'm so tired of arty-farty direction the crap camerawork. I have one rule for #FigureSkating cinematography: If I notice what you are doing with the cameras, you are doing it wrong.

#GPFigure #FigureSkating We live in the era when no one can see the start of a program becausse the director is fixated on giving us an ECU of the skater's face at center ice, so any messy work around the neckline is going to be relentlessly exposed. I'd rather not channel Nina Garcia, but ...

#GPFigure if the director is so busy being arty with the cameras that I can't see the skater's first movements in a program, what else do you think my brain will think about? Bad costumes or ugly music choices. #FigureSkating

... the designer adds a scrap around her neck with a long trailing bit that looks like something they didn't have time to finish properly before it was called to the runway? Wut? You did that on purpose? Why? It's not like Christian Siriano called time on you. Finish it. #GPFigure #FigureSkating

#GPFigure #FigureSkating Your fluttery scraps don't say "look at the speed of my skater as she whizzes down the ice" to me. They say "my skaters have no confidence in the strength of their movements so I'm going to distract you with these flyaway things."

Also: why do so many #FigureSkating costumes, especially the ladies' dresses for singles, look as if they were put together from the detrius left on the workroom floor from Project Runway? Youn's dress. Purple-tinted dress built on a pink body? Almost pretty despite that, then ... #GPFigure

#AncestryHour Let's cut government agencies to the bone, so they can't reliably do the work they were mandated to do, then burden them with big new projects where they muddle the data they collect themselves with data from other agencies! Oh yeah, that sounds efficient. /s

#AncestryHour #genealogy #GenHour Email from findmypast: "On Monday December 14 2026, we will be retiring SMS text messaging for multi-factor authentication verification during sign-in. To log in using multi-factor authentication, you’ll need to use an authenticator app instead."

#AncestryHour #genealogy #GenHour Changing from SMS text to using an Authenticator app is easy peasy. Check under security settings. All taken care of now and I won't have to think about it again.
