Welcome to the Paramount Observatory. This is a private project of Les Girvan to show the active #Astronomy, #Astrophotography, I am doing from #Liverpool #UK.

How amazing is this, and we so take it for granted. A motorised vehicle driving around another planet in our Solar System! 🔭

Good evening #Bluesky the 🔭 observatory is open again tonight, so doing an #EAA session before the main session of imaging my main target later. I'm starting with M13 #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Unfortunately could not do further imaging last night as the cooling fan has failed on the camera, so ordered and waiting for replacement now. Fortunately there is no clear sky forecast over the next few days, so hopefully I'll have it repaired for the next opportunity 🤞

So now we have moved the 🔭 to visit M52, which in the FOV includes C11 the bubble nebula, up and to right of the cluster. M52, Open cluster ~35M years old, 5,000 light years away. Bubble Nebula, Carved out by a monster star 44x heavier than the Sun with 4million mph winds! 😲

M52 FACTS Is a relatively young cluster at about 35 million years old (compared to our Sun's 4.6 billion years). Contains roughly 200 to 600 stars, mostly hot, bright blue main-sequence stars. lies roughly 4,600 to 5,000 light-years from Earth.

Chosen for Humanity's First Interstellar Message! In 1974, humanity transmitted the famous Arecibo Message—a binary radio signal. The message will take another 22,000 years to get there (and M13 will have moved slightly in its orbit by then!).

Just under 9hrs on this so far, the Bubble neb (NGC7635) and lobster claw neb (Sh2-157) also NGC7538 lower left.

Going for a DSO 🔭 object tonight, with limited clear sky forecast I'm using #EAA to start building data, tonight IC1805. IC 1805, universally known as the Heart Nebula, is a stunning emission nebula located in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Here are some fascinating facts about it: It sits roughly 7,500 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia, just west of the famous "W" shape. Discovered by the legendary astronomer William Herschel on November 3, 1787. ...

... Despite its massive physical size, the surface brightness of IC 1805 is very faint (around magnitude 18.3), meaning it cannot be seen with the naked eye or standard binoculars and typically requires long-exposure astrophotography or narrowband filters to reveal its intricate structure.

What a great opportunity, good luck to whoever applies!

PhD student in astronomy or related scientific fields, this one is for you!  There is still time to apply for the ESO Studentship Programme 2026/2027. Positions are available: ➡️ At our Headquarters in Germany ➡️ In our offices in Santiago (Chile) Details: https://recruitment.eso.org/ 🔭 #ESOjobs

The last object in my sky hoping is #M27 the Dumbbell Nebula. Found by French astronomer Charles Messier in 1764, it was the first planetary nebula ever discovered, its located about 1,200 to 1,360 light-years away.🔭 Hope you enjoyed that little sky hope? Now off to #Saturn

Estimated to be roughly 13.7 billion years old with very few heavy elements, meaning its stars formed early in the universe's history, M56 roughly 32,900 light-years away in the constellation Lyra and Measures approximately 84 light-years across. 🔭

Less dramatic in BW rather than colour our next target id #M57 The Ring Nebula. a glowing shell of ionized gas, created when a sun-like star expelled its outer layers near the end of its life.🔭

Just heading off to meet P6 of Hillside Primary in Aberdeen this morning. I'll be helping them get ready for tonight's 100hours stargazing challenge. Amazingly the weather Gods appear to be on our side with clear skies forecast up North tonight!🤞🔭 👇Join in with stargazers across the entire globe!

Jenny Shipway@jennyshipway.bsky.social

✨ ONE DAY to go! ✨ Join us for a 100-Hour global stargazing marathon. Pop outside during the event and complete our beginners' stargazing challenges to put your markers on the map 🤩 📌 See how many people have already registered their locations in advance at 100hours.online - is your town there? 👀

The concern is how deep these cuts are going to go and what amazing discoveries will never happen or are seriously delayed!

It's been 7 months since I gave evidence at the UKGov select committee hearing, on the policy changes at UKRI which have had a catastrophic impact on funding for UK astronomy and particle physics. When asked if we thought we were the "canary in the coal mine", we said yes..... we weren't wrong. 🧪🔭⚛️

I photographed the Elephant's Trunk nebula over the last 3 nights. The dark nebulosity and sharp structures were very fun to process. #astrophotography #photography #space #astronomy

I'd of loved this opportunity ...good luck to those that go for it 👏👏👏

Any astrophotographers out there? I'm looking for images of people looking at the sky without telescopes. If you can share shots of meteor watching in deckchairs, or anything of you hanging out under the stars that would be fab. 🔭

🪐 Did you know Saturn's main rings stretch ~280,000 km across, yet they are only about 10 meters thick? This image was captured when Saturn was near opposition in August 2022! The dark gap visible in the rings is the 4,700 km-wide Cassini Division.

Facts about NGC6888 Located ~5,000 light-years away in Cygnus. Sculpted by Wolf-Rayet star WR 136 blowing gas at 2,000 km/s. Formed when fast stellar wind hit slower gas shed during its earlier red giant phase. WR 136 is expected to explode as a supernova within 100,000 years.

I captured the Andromeda Galaxy with an 8-hour integration time using my Askar FRA500 telescope, ASI2600MC Duo camera, and ZWO AM5N mount. High-resolution: app.astrobin.com/i/xz1nem #astrophotography #astronomy #naturephotography #nature #longexposure #andromeda #galaxy #eastcoastkin #photography

I have been experimenting more with the #Siril tools and revisiting some older data to see how I can extract more detail or just make it more interesting, which is subjective I know! This is my 🔭 image of Rosette Nebula, Let me know which you prefer? #Astro #Astronomy #Astrophotography

The Rosette Nebula is a giant stellar nursery 5,000 light-years away, spanning 130 light-years across. The central hole isn't empty—it was carved out by violent stellar winds and radiation from hot young stars born inside it, which will eventually destroy the surrounding flower-shaped cloud.
