I'm a convert to L-plates at this point. I like the extra grip surface and while I do kinda miss the ergonomics and extra batteries of a vertical grip neither of my current main cameras actually supports one, and they do add a lot of weight. The Cotton Carrier also works much better without one.

I'm annoyed that Fuji's first-party grips for the GFX cameras don't have battery door cutouts, which makes them nonstarters as far as I'm concerned (who the hell wants to take the grip off every time they change the battery??), but the SmallRig L plate is pretty decent.

Oreo came out with *espresso creme Thins* and then made them *limited edition*? You absolute fucking cowards. Part of me wants to try to get a box and part of me doesn't like encouraging this kind of stupidity.

For every collab with Rowling. I have a list. I am keeping score. I will never buy from them again. Let me know if you want that list.

AI was supposed to free us from mundane tasks to focus on what really matters and instead we're outsourcing creativity and… *checks notes, blinks, checks notes again* …our interactions with our children.

cool, cool

One of the best things you can do for yourself if you want to do more photography is find a better way to carry your camera. Neck straps suck. I recommend either a sling like BlackRapid and Peak Design make, or a vest like the Cotton Carrier G3 which is what I mostly use (as a bonus they're local!)

Or if you have a tiny little P&S get a good hand strap with a slide: I use SmallRig's strap on my Ricoh. (And no, none of these companies paid me for my shout-outs, I just like their products. πŸ˜…)

Something I spoke about before was how transphobia is often an expression of misogyny, it gives people who hate women an outlet and sets trans women up as a class of women it's socially okay to be misogynistic towards, while also providing an ideological justification for that misogyny.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

My Volvo is so nice that I wish I could get another Volvo wagon or sedan as my next daily driver too but they've stopped bringing anything but fucking crossovers and SUVs to North America. πŸ˜’ Guess I'll just have to drive this one until the wheels fall off.

I'm used to older guys wanting to talk to me about my Fiat but someone actually wanted to talk to me about the Volvo recently. Guess he got a Tesla and has some regrets, go fig.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

If you're arguing with a friend about something they care about and they stop and say something like "agree to disagree", maybe you've convinced them, or they decided the issue wasn't worth the effort. Or maybe, just maybe, they've decided *you* aren't worth the effort and you're about to lose them.

I've soured on people this way before. Not often, and never without tension beforehand, but now and then someone without much investment in an issue I care a lot about will be so determined to Logic their way through it that I just end up feeling like I can't do anything but cut them loose.

I feel that most people eventually come to the knowledge that it's often more important to be kind than to be right. But some people take a really long time to get there, and some just never do.

Think I may switch my photography site from SmugMug to Pixpa. SmugMug's editors feel kind of clunky and dated. And also I frankly kinda hate the name "SmugMug"?

"I care about you but not enough not to vote for someone who will consider your human rights an appropriate subject for debate" is not as reassuring as you might think.

Apparently Capture One and Sony are having some kind of stupid slap-fight so I have to use ExifTool to update the camera model field in my RAWs from "RX10 V" to the older RX10 IV model in order to process my photos in C1. πŸ™„ People. We don't have time for this. Figure it the fuck out.

This is some of why I get frustrated with organizations like CAPA having "judging criteria" and marking photos down because, I don't know, there's a blown highlight or something. So? Does it affect how effective the photo is? If not, I don't care and as commentary it's uninteresting.

I'd like to take a portraiture class. I feel like that's a thing that would be nice to be slightly better at. I also feel like most of the challenge of portraiture for me is social, not technical. Graffiti, say, can sometimes dictate a certain photographic approach, but it doesn't have *opinions*.

It's hard trying to find a regular photography group because I feel like I've been doing photography for long enough and intensely enough that while my photos aren't technically perfect, if a photo has technical issues I'm usually already at least somewhat aware of what they are and how to fix them.

So if you've ever looked at one of my photos and gotten a particular impression or a particular feeling, I actually find that kind of feedback way more interesting and useful than "you should've shot this at f/8 instead of f/4".

I particularly wish there was more artistic commentary on photography that didn't rapidly descend into pretentious academic-speak, because to me that kind of thing rapidly becomes very… *jerkoff motion*

But particularly if you're not super experienced as a photographer you often get hung up on the technical aspects. So a lot of people only really offer technical commentary and that just isn't very interesting or useful to me. I'm much more interested in whether or not it's artistically successful.

Every other major shipping company has gotten the whole "send the package to the pickup point at the end of the day of a failed delivery" thing down. Purolator, meanwhile, apparently has to send it back to the sort facility again first. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Man, it would be really nice if Ricoh would make one of their tiny GR cameras that would take an addon EVF. The uncoupled OVFs just do not cut it, particularly for $200-300, and composing on the rear screen sucks in bright light. I have a waist-level finder which helps, but ehhh.

This is very true overall. Still remember a fan who tried to talk to me while eating chick fil a. It did not go well for them lol

Soatok, the Furbidden One@soatok.bsky.social

Watching people glaze SonicFox for being against GenAI (when that's the lowest stakes stance for a queer furry to take) is a lil funny But then I remember seeing furries in line at Chic Fil A whenever I go to FWA I guess take the W's you can?

mfw I try to type "doesn't" and iOS gives me "forwent". "Forwent"?! Like, I recognize that it's a word but I've probably used it less than five times in my entire life.

I should dig around and see if there are any other local furry parties that could use more DJs, since the party group I was DJing for kinda fell apart and I'm starting to feel the itch again.
