Read an entire thing by James Holland about the Berchtesgarden yesterday and tbf it's a magnificent achievement to've developed a whole personal style of writing about the Nazis that requires you to stop every single paragraph and shoehorn in a clarification that you do in fact think they were bad

🐳 EPISODE 33 🐳 As the famous Vera Lynn song goes, "Whale meat again", or whatever she said. This cetacean-sized episode is all about eating whales, and a terrible insight into the things Pete is willing to put into his mouth. Listen for free on Patreon or wherever you get your podcasts.

Rumour has it that if Abdul El Sayed wins in Michigan, he will force Charles Entertainment Cheese to convert to Islam and become Mohammed Entertainment Cheese. Nobody is talking about this.

Danny Kruger's words on Muslims, if you replaced references to Islam with 'international Jewry' or 'the Bishop of Rome', might appear familiar to fans of Western Medieval and modern history

David Wilcock@davidtwilcock.bsky.social

Stony silence for Danny Kruger at a Reform rally as he suggests party could win over UK Muslim voters - as long as they swear 'allegiance to the British state' rather than the 'global Islamic community'

Properly loved recording this one. Features Pynchon, Barthelme, Donne, Marvell, Marx, CLR James, Melville as the GOAT of Looking At Things, lots of rope and a big old whale getting murdered

🐳 EPISODE 31 🐳 We have a Marxist analysis of Moby-Dick, we discuss body horror and Penny Dreadfuls, and at the halfway point we finally... FINALLY... kill a whale. Listen for free on Patreon or wherever you get your podcasts from. 🐳🐳🐳🐳

Schedules permitted, this week's episode is going to be one for the ages as we indulge in Marxist analysis of a single sentence in Moby-Dick.

Sometimes people put a stank on it when they say the word and pretending they don't is naive.

Charlotte Lydia Riley@lottelydia.bsky.social

Years of working in left archives and engaging in left politics has made me wary when I hear or read "Zionist" - not because it is inherently offensive or abusive or antisemitic - but because it provides cover for a huge range of different arguments and attitudes. Political parties should know this!

Just picked my cat up in both hands and held him at arm's length while he unloaded about two pints of liquid shit on the kitchen floor. Like the Devil's own icing bag

since my co-host on @thewhale1851.bsky.social is relentlessly, bludgeoningly, perhaps even tastelessly Welsh, I've been trying to remember whether Moby-Dick engages with Welshness at any point. Surely it must do - does anyone know?

The Whale Pod@thewhale1851.bsky.social

Could you imagine being a Welsh speaker with a Moby-Dick podcast? Fishguard was where they filmed the New Bedford scenes, and the town is celebrating the film's 70th anniversary this weekend with a screening.

Got back from Kenya last weekend and while I was unpacking my suitcase my horrible giant son (a cat) decided he liked it so much he would live in it. so I had to just leave it there open on the sofa for six days. On the sixth day he filled it wth vomit and decided he didn't care for it any more

obviously as soon as I'd cleaned the inside and closed the lid he came back and stood atop it yowling confusedly and frowning down between his feet trying to work out what had happened to it

Lads I think Charles Moore just lent his weight to the Rhodes Must Fall movement! Incredible news!! I think he also maybe wants to fuck a statue but let's just set that to one side for now and enjoy the win shall we

lol, "horniman"

The Whale Pod@thewhale1851.bsky.social

Have you ever wanted to stick a bike pump up a walrus? The Horniman Museum holds the specimen you need. Hunted in the 1870s and overstuffed by a bemused Victorian taxidermist, it was displayed at the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London in 1886 where Queen Victoria fell in love with it.

"The alleged 'whale' and a 'narwhale'" from Goldsmith's Animated Nature (1774) (although this particular image is taken from the abridged version published in 1826 if you want to say "urm, actually" about it)

I'm easily pleased and I think this here is a very good joke, actually

A week today I'll be running the Great North Run for Maggie's cancer centres, because at the start of this shitty year my wife lost her lovely mum to cancer. I can't do anything about that, but I can do this. ajbellgreatnorthrun2026.enthuse.com/pf/richard-s...

This is great, but I really can't emphasise enough that Astley's links to Homeland weren't "uncovered", nor particularly "past" - he joined in 2025 after being chair of his local Reform branch, was very public about it, and returned to Reform just in time to run for the council. Everybody knew!

Searchlight magazine@searchlightmag.bsky.social

A Reform councillor who tried to erase evidence of his far-right past has been expelled after his links to the fascist Homeland Party were uncovered. Read more here: searchlightmagazine.com/2026/09/refo...

The issue isn't that Reform has an issue with dodgy candidates and are lax about vetting them - it's that Reform is an integral part of the ecosystem of the far right, of which it's the (semi-)respectablised electoral wing
