Another widely wet and very windy spell incoming Changes afoot though Winds easing and turning drier later this week..especially in the south..fog a possibility

Further line convection showing up on tonight's cold front sweeping eastwards across England and Wales tonight..timings below.. Line convection = narrow bands of rain embedded in the front with additional intensity, and gusty winds

As Storm Boelo exits stage right, the next deep area of low pressure waits in the wings stage left..further 🌧🌬 to come Monday into Tuesday 70+ mph wind gusts once again possible in the N of the UK Further warnings issued for this.. #weatheraware on X www.metoffice.gov.uk

Line convection just passing through here in SE Devon.. quite a lively little band..these maintaining some organisation as they feed E across England this evening..

Rain couldn't have arrived at a better time.. The total reservoir storage for the South West Water area is at 30% on 22/10/2026. This time last year, storage was at 50%

The jetstream (red arrow pic 1) left exit (pic2) engaging with storm Boelo helping it to strengthen The jet much further north now though than with storm Austen yesterday (pic3), hence its more northerly track & hence its impacts being felt more across the N of the UK this time

1/2 Now that the El Nino seems to be having an influence on our later Autumn (into early winter) weather, bringing an increased chance of wet and windy +NAO patterns, it's interesting to have a look into the likely teleconnections for later winter.. See 2/2

Research suggests late winter teleconnections on UK weather depends on strength of El Nino During strong events as now mid Atlantic high pressure is favoured & cold N'ly based wind flow bias During moderate events high to N, low to SW of UK gives -NAO cold E based flow bias

The jetstream (red) cutting across Storm Austen this evening Cold, unstable air on the jet's northern side digging in from the NW, helping to create the vigorous hook cloud circulating around the storm centre, along with the strongest wind gusts which arrive in the coming hrs

Storm Boelo named for this weekend, hot on the heels of Storm Austen ..

The Met Office has named #StormBoelo The storm is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain across the UK on Saturday The strongest winds will be across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England Stay #WeatherAware ⚠️

Quite a change to the forecast depth of the low pressure system lying to the NW of the UK this Saturday on UKMO model output 968hpa 2 days ago to 948hpa currently

The Atlantic jet stream is firing up with remarkable rapid cyclogenesis showing its hand next few days Developing Storm Austen deepens 1004 to 980hpa (24hpa) in just the next 18hrs or so Meanwhile, the next low to affect UK this weekend deepens 999 to 948hpa (51hpa) in 24hrs

A warm front wave forming from the low off the E US coast sweeps east to become Storm Austen Friday Another low may spawn from this W Atlantic low to bring further strong winds, especially to N UK this weekend Then the W Atlantic low itself may sweep east and brush NW UK Monday

Super typhoon Champi is a monster...

MyRadar@myradar.bsky.social

Supertyphoon Champi is a Category 5 (and then some). Maximum sustained winds in the immediate core are near 180 mph, with gusts likely approaching 200 mph. The system's satellite presentation rivals that of Melissa's. An atmospheric buzzsaw roaming the Pacific:

Developing Storm Austen just set to qualify as a rapidly deepening low pressure system as it approaches the UK later this week Central pressure fall of 24hpa in 24hrs 1005hpa 00Z Thu-981hpa 00Z Friday 🌬

Storm Austen has been named by the Met Office for later this week #weatheraware www.metoffice.gov.uk

The Met Office has named #StormAusten The storm is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain across the UK on Thursday night and Friday The strongest winds will be across the southwest of England and into southern Wales. Stay #WeatherAware ⚠️

1040.4 hPa at Tulloch Bridge on Saturday morning makes this the strongest high pressure over the UK in October since 2018 — and in Scotland since 2016. Several sites with ~30 years data have set new October MSLP records in S'ern Scotland, N'ern England & Northern Ireland. @alexdeakin.bsky.social

After the extreme flooding event in Valencia in October 2024 caused by an upper atmospheric low pressure system, @AEMET_Esp started naming these 'DANA's Recently named Dana 'Adam' is set to bring some heavy rain and thunderstorms to SE Spain and S France from Saturday

As I've been suggesting in recent weeks, and as might be expected given El Nino and it's teleconnections now we're moving towards 2nd half of Autumn, just starting to see some interesting weather model output for next week and beyond Something to keep 👀 on for potential 🌬🌧

This weekend's combined surface pressure/upper atmospheric level height chart a great example proving that looking at surface level features alone can be misleading High pressure looks dominant across the UK, but the green blob in the SE signals an upper atmospheric disturbance/a chance of showers
