The greatness of Michael Gothard in THE DEVILS got me to revisit the very oddball SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN in which he plays a mysterious serial killer. It’s a film that almost seems designed to annoy, which I’ve always liked about it.

This is a fantastic lineup but one film you should definitely go see if you haven't is PETER IBBETSON.

Last night, with a packed house, I attended the Academy's US premiere of the impeccable 4K restoration of the Hammer classic Horror of Dracula. Jack Asher's Technicolor cinematography looks fabulous. James Bernard's score sounds even better. If you can find it playing theatrically, go for it!

The other day I saw THE DEVILS and last night I watched PADDINGTON IN PERU so the large presence of nuns in both is making me imagine a recut combining the two films.

A beautiful piece about a movie that is very dear to this erstwhile Durhamite’s heart (even if, as Peter notes, it’s not really about Durham).

Just saw this (it's on tubi) last night. What a strange, beautiful movie. Really conveys what it must have felt like to live in the early 70s, one absurdity after another. Insightful look at a lost treasure by @peterapeel.bsky.social.

Saw this at the Chinese on opening weekend and stood in the popcorn line behind Steven Soderbergh, I guess on a day off from shooting OCEAN'S THIRTEEN.

Today is the 20th anniversary of The Departed hitting theaters, aka the best flip phone movie ever made and Marky Mark's last great role, which means it's also been 20 years of annoying complaints from people who think they're smarter than the movie because of its last shot.

Elvis Presley in “Midnight Cowboy.” He would have been fucking amazing. No damn way the Colonel would have let him do it. But Elvis is Joe Buck: “Women like me, goddammit. Hell, the only one thing I ever been good for is lovin’. Women go crazy for me, that’s a really true fact!”
