2) Yes fiction effects reality and your favorite thing says something about you. Fandom only says it doesn't when they have a toxic character/ story they like and don't want to receive any criticism directed towards for said like If you ship /defend objectively terrible people/ dynamics you are bad

While on some level I find it interesting that the work is more liked than the creator (Miraculous Lady bug and Homestuck being big examples of such) It's almost never that nuanced of the time It's alarming that so many a fandom still default to these talking points to deflect rejections or critique

1) You aren't owed confirmations of your head cannons, don't harass creators because your personal ship didn't pan out in story. Most creators just say "ship whatever" so they aren't harassed by shippers (Or worst case some will use the excuses listed above themselves)

Anytime I see anything in media that has a toxic relationship, dynamic, or overall theme weather it was well written or not there will be an army of people earnestly defending, shipping, or excusing said toxicity with every excuse and false equivalence you can think of
