Zara Weinberg was a brilliant light both in and out of science. She changed the lives of everyone she interacted and loved for the better. Her legacy will live on through all of us and we will fight for a better world on behalf of her memory.

Excuse my language but what fucking business is it of the united states government whether Brown undertakes this kind of medical care for parents and their kids who fully consent to it and desire it? Insanity! Pure discrimination in an agreement trollingly cloaked in preventing discrimination.

Just in: NIH staff have been instructed to REINSTATE these ~900 grants to comply with the court order, per sources. This comes after staff were also directed to cease any further terminations. You can see the lists grants to be reinstated in my post below.

L.A. TACO has confirmed that Adrian Andrew Martinez, the 20yr-old US citizen taken by federal agents while working at Walmart in Pico Rivera, is being held at the federal building in downtown L.A. ~ Aisha Wallace-Palomares reporting.

Pls not the 2016 "ur valid" approach!! Instead tell them one way or another we WILL make sure they get the access they need.

That we show them that we are trans adults and we almost invariably didn't have gender affirming care before puberty and we are loved and beautiful and happy. The story of trans joy and trans beloved community NEEDS to be louder than the story of trans suicidality today.

This was interesting to us because previous studies have documented the divergent properties of the Ib and Is motor neurons, including the lack of retrograde homeostatic signaling mechanisms at the Is. DmGluR expression is another way the Ib differentiates itself as a highly plastic input. (5/5)

This was the result of years of effort from each of the authors on the list. I am very happy to finally see this out there, even as our science careers are quite possibly vanishing in a puff of smoke.

... synapses were spatially situated in a random manner - their individual release strength did not predict their spatial location across the NMJ. What could allow for this robust balancing act between facilitation and depression? We found that... (3/5)

... Delivering an agonist for the only presynaptic metabotropic glutamate receptor, DmGluRA, abolished this balancing effect. Additionally, we CRISPR-tagged this receptor and found that it was mostly expressed in only one of two types of glutamatergic motor neurons present, the Ib MN. (4/5)

... Quite remarkably the NMJ was able to regulate vesicular release over 100s of synapses to ensure overall glutamate release was balanced across varying presynaptic firing frequencies! Moreover...(2/5)

Cat's out of the bag!!! Super excited to be a part of this incredible community!

OK so if anyone has any leads on private postdoc fellowships or funding sources lmk!!! Hopeful about this ACLU lawsuit but need to still think practically to make sure I have a paycheck.

Well divas... I want to say it's over but my delusion says it's not quite over yet.

I have learned that the directors of ALL: PREP, IMSD, and IRACDA programs across the country have received similar cancelation notices. This follows previous cancellations of MARC and URISE programs. This further dismantles the mechanisms that enable scientific training opportunities for SO MANY.

Some advice on activism and feeling less helpless: You probably cannot make a big change by yourself. That's okay. Find a thing you can do--either joining an existing thing or starting something small that you can sustain with resources you have--and start there.

Just to spell this out: you, too, are not breaking the law. Versions of this could happen to any of us.

News Eye@newseye.bsky.social

NEW: White House says the arrest and deportation of student activist & legal US resident, Mahmoud Khalil, is a blueprint for more. The final line here is chilling. The White House specifically says Khalil was not breaking the law. No evidence, no due process, no crime. He was just disappeared.
