Faith in human nature restored. Whilst walking/camping in the Lake District, I left my trekking poles on a windswept fellside, off the beaten track, on a rarely-visited fell. More in hope than expectation I posted on a "lost and found in Cumbria" FB page.

Already we're into the realm of barely credible, and yet Dave then made a special trip to my family's cottage, to leave the poles hanging from the back door handle, from where my cousin has since retrieved them. Truly Dave is a prince among men. Be more Dave.

A nice chap called Dave replied saying he might be heading up that way and would look out for them. Dave did indeed head up that way, but got side-tracked by rescuing a sheep. As you do. A week later he went back, and found the missing trekking poles.

Comment in project meeting today, "we need to do X or we'll take a bath on this contract". Later, Colleague A asks Colleague B what this meant. Colleague B explains what "taking a cold bath means". Confusion reigns.

It won't pay my bills either, but isn't life richer for this kind of detail? 😊

i came across the saying "to follow like a Tantony pig" so I get curious and look it up, but Tantony isnt a place, it's a contraction of St Anthony who is the saint of swineherds, so the proverb means to follow someone like a pig following the hog messiah. alas this information will not pay my bills

Hello down there! I seem to be a little bit stuck. Any chance you have a ladder long enough to come and get me? Of course I'll co-operate, and not try and escape along a branch not strong enough for my weight, or cling fiercely to the tree with every fibre of my being when you try and pick me up.

For the record, scrapping indefinite leave to remain and deporting people is wrong *not* because it hasn't been costed properly, or the "figures are wrong" but because it's a disgraceful, immoral, inhumane, idiotic thing to do. And appeals to racist shitgibbons.

The boy's in Yr9 now, so time for teachers to knuckle down and make sure the kids really hate English literature. 13 year old boys are definitely interested in Jane Eyre and An Inspector Calls. Or Ann In Spectacles as we now call it. Husband does love a pun.

All the wanging on about how the liberal left are the violent ones reminds me of Rimmer in Red Dwarf, mocking liberals, "The time for talking is over. Call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard and hit it fast with a major - and I mean major - leaflet campaign"

BIG NEWS: For the first time in six years, Britain's rarest breeding bird has successfully nested in the UK! A pair of Montagu's Harriers have raised four healthy chicks, all of which have taken their first flights.

The dark line is a Badger path. The lawn was wildflower meadow and so little light reached the ground. Now it has been cut the dead, yellow grass is revealed. But where the Badgers cross they trample the long grass letting light down to the ground. Worth looking out for in recently cut fields.

Histon Hornets 5-a-side football tournament... 215 teams, 593 matches, 13 pitches, 30 referees, 1500+ players, 1.5 days. And me at the helm leading an extraordinary gang of volunteers doing it all for the love of the game. Might be a bit tired now

Emma's posts are properly lovely brain-soothers. I've got a couple of her botanical image prints framed for everyday brain-soothing loveliness. Pause and gaze and forget the outside world (or inside monologue) for a while.

Seeing the fractal patterns of plants (even on a screen) shifts our brain activity from fight or flight to rest & digest due to ancient foraging pathways that are still very active in modern humans. Here's your daily bunch of lovely twigs for your noggin- late June floral snapshot from the garden🌿🧠:

I so want to do this, but also am so time-poor at the moment that I know I would just pile stress on my poor burnt-out little brain by giving myself another "should". So maybe this can be my summer holiday thing.

My (new, young) colleague just introduced me to the customer that we're providing instrument training to, "this is Caroline and she knows everything, so be nice to her". And I'm really not sure about the implications of that statement!
