"Do you think it is acceptable or not for a job candidate to bring a coffee for themselves to an in-person job interview?" Unacceptable: 54% Acceptable: 26% YouGov / Oct 26, 2026

Anyone predicting overall turnout in next week's election? 2018 (50%) and 2022 (46%) showed big increases over previous midterms (generally in the low 40s-high 30s).

Social scientists have lent our names to calls for electoral system change and rule of law, because of the findings of our disciplines. We should do the same for anti-trans ads, which have dubious benefit and demonstrable harm. My latest at GP/BP goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/social-sci...

goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.comAnti-trans campaign ads are a bad strategy. Social scientists should say so.If we care about democracy, we should not tolerate this

They got Zombie Roger Taney to appear at a Trump rally.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

Go the life of me I will never understand how Scott Galloway became a thing.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

scott galloway and jessica tarlov held an event here in town yesterday where “don’t impeach or waste time on investigations because ‘28” was the consensus position of the panel. so yeah, this is something to anticipate.

Born 1963, so: End of legal segregation Gender equality laws Same sex marriage Lower poverty rate Lower infant mortality Higher median income Higher life expectancy

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

He's a talented candidate but he really needs to try Cortland or Empire apples.

Fall is here. So we can finally talk about this serious topic... Jonagold vs. Honeycrisp apples.

Trump is going to sow as much chaos and confusion as possible in order to avoid seating elected Democrats. January 3, 2027 is going to make January 6, 2021 seem mild.

Breaking news: The Justice Department has moved to preemptively block certification of the results of Alaska’s Senate race if Republican incumbent Sen. Dan S. Sullivan loses his tight race against Democrat Mary Peltola next month.

In case you missed it, I've been hard at work writing :) Got a piece at the University of Kansas Press blog that riffs on my book chapter in a recent volume, looking at the concentration of power in the Trump era kansaspress.ku.edu/9780700641185/

Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

I’m guessing that 50 or more years ago it was parents cutting off their kids. For example, in 1956 my grandfather cut off my mom for marrying a Catholic.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

I saw You Can See Everything last night. It totally lives up to the hype and then some. Probably the most fascinating documentary I’ve ever seen.

I certainly think Trump’s various abuses of power merit impeachment but keep in mind that the general public has a hard time following abstract concepts like this. OTOH everyone understands and loves a simple $$$ corruption story.

So if Democrats end up impeaching Trump, they need to focus in on Trump’s $$$ corruption. That may seem small potatoes compared to his autocratic abuses but remember, they finally put Al Capone in jail for not paying his taxes.

Nationalize Starlink.

Can’t Allow Elon Musk the Power to Intervene in Wars No individual should be able to disrupt military ops like Musk did with Ukraine’s. I wrote that when he did it in 2023. Was told the problem was contract rules. Nope. Happened again. The problem is too much power, esp for an enemy of democracy.

Damning stuff, but if you don’t believe by now that Paxton is corrupt there’s probably nothing that would convince you.

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

Ken Paxton is a scumbag and a criminal. Which is why Trump endorsed him.

Steve Bannon issues warning to voters if they vote for Democrats in the midterms: “I think you’ll see Bobby Kennedy impeached, I’ll think you see Pete Hegseth impeached. I think you’ll see subpoenas flying every day. They will look to destroy Trump, and we’ll be bogged down for two years.”

This can't help Gavin Newsom if he runs for president. I can just imagine a debate opponent saying, "Anyone who married Kimberly Guilfoyle doesn't have the judgment to be president."

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social

AP: "A senior U.S. official said Sunday that Trump and Rubio are 'extremely pissed off' by Guilfoyle’s reported conduct and would likely decide on what action to take this week after Monday’s Columbus Day holiday."

I’d see him driving in his car with his assistant coaches. He’d take his hands off the wheel so he could gesticulate wildly, then grab the wheel just before the car would go off the road.

I used to lifeguard at the college pool where Ditka and other Bears would walk in the shallow end as PT after knee surgery. Everyone else would just stroll leisurely back and forth across the pool. Not Ditka. He would charge across the water like a speedboat, leaving a wake behind him.

They should have done this when the university president ran over a protestor’s foot
