i dont really like to prop up my own stuff by shitting on other games but i really really reall hate gambling with a passion and this skinner box time wasting garbage infesting the indie scene is spiritually killing me
life hack: have nobody you know live close by, dont have a car, and pick a career that means you never have to leave your apartment. it will make you really happy
sometimes as a solo dev i worry about getting out competed by people willing to use ai but then i remember that all of their games are gonna suck shit anyway so im good
physical media is cool and all but whether or not a company releases a cool object you can touch is NOT the existential threat, its DRM thats the actual issue here but most people are uninformed enough to frame the conversation around physical media and the conversation is dead before it can start.
a sort of righteous indignation and nostalgia for discs swirl together into an incomprehensible reactionary soup, making it impossible for the actual discussion to take place most of the time
the good news is, emulation and cracks are out there. there are people willing to do the work to free art from corporate clutches every day, and its easily accessible. for now.
20 years ago watching an endlessly scrolling stream of 30 second videos would have been a parodically dystopian idiocracy-type idea. it bothers me how eagerly it was adopted.

If you are emulating an older game like an NES game, stop and go look up the manual it came with. Not a guide, the manual. It was expected reading material and they are commonly intended as companions to the game that can portray information the original game might not have had the capacity for.
i feel like so much of megamans success is that stage select format. as a kid i could only beat like 1 of the stages per game but i could just visit a different one when i got bored. when i was too bad at games to see most of them that buffet of stages was extremely appealing
I can't emphasize enough that caring about game design is woke. It is progressive and important to give a shit about the quality of the games our industry produces
this bit from skill up's review of wolverine knocked me on my ass, it feels like something that wouldve come out of one of those focus m parody videos but its in a real triple A game
open world kirby is the last straw dude i cant keep doing this "hmm well lets see how they handle the switch to open world" shit anymore just go back to making regular games please
genre discourse is so insane. every once in a while a bunch of posters decide that they can individually steer culture towards their preference and that its important that they do.
The studio released an official catch-up list ahead of December’s release. We have easy links to watch every one of the movies so you can get up to speed. www.wired.com/story/marvel...
current plan: working on a smaller, more action oriented game right now. after that im going to make a successor to DEMON DUST. idk if itll be a true sequel or not yet.
not going to name them in the post but ive been back to back disappointed by a couple of games that have had great aesthetics but just don't feel competently designed as games. it feels like theres so much incentive for games to look pretty but almost none at all for them to play particularly well
i mean its not like its a new problem but i do worry about how you would even learn to make better games? what are the vectors to learning the things about game development that arent aesthetic or technical? are people still doing talks about actual game design? idk!
ASTRAL COURT DX HAS BEEN RELEASED!!! You can get it for free on Steam and Itch!! Check it out!!! #indiedev#gamedev#y2kstore.steampowered.com/app/4568830/...
i find it kind of funny how the earth federations insistence on control over its empire basically causes every problem in universal century but because theres always some group of turbofascists around they just always get to play the goodguy
with its impending arrival on modern platforms via the master collection 2, i'm stoked to have this review of metal gear solid 4 by cole kronman on kotaku today: kotaku.com/metal-gear-s...
