Just mailed off my ballot. Normally I go through the ritual of looking up every candidate, including the Republicans, before I fill out my ballot. That did not happen this time. I will start considering Republican candidates again sometime in 2034, and am open to pushing the date out farther

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I was wrong and too cynical. I made some snarky reply to @jkuznicki.bsky.social saying that Trump's fandom is a sports team and that his disapproval ratings come from it not being fun to cheer for him anymore. Polls like this do not show that.

I am personally not sure what Trump's approval rating floor is, but it's definitely lower than pundits were predicting in early 2025. It is a possibility that he never gets above the mid-30s again (among all adults) fiftyplusone.news/polls/approv...

I think that huge swathes of American voters are disengaged from politics and are vulnerable to demagogues, but they are engaged enough to say "hey this absolutely sucks and we hate it." I sure wish they were sufficiently engaged before the policies were enacted, though

One week and counting since my iron infusion, and my running has slightly improved. Come on bones, you can do it! Keep making blood!

bought Tin Cup Rye ($25) for the purposes of making into Manhattans and, frankly, this is not good at all. I usually get ~$50 bottles and thought myself a non-discerning consumer of spirits and, well, this stuff is proving me wrong.

new cherries have been purchased. the kid at the liquor store counter looked blankly at me when I asked him where the jarred cherries were. also a couple had just moved here and was complaining about how Oregon makes them go to a liquor store to buy liquor. I told them to visit Massachusetts

most of family guy is garbage but I sing "The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit of America" to myself every time I see a MA license plate out here in the West. My wife hates it so much

I pulled into the liquor store on the way home from the climbing gym and made a casual joke about my wife and child "driving me to drink." my wife responded with "hahahaha you haven't seen anything yet. you still have about 40 years to go!!!"

this is better joke material than my wife asking if I've been keeping up on the life insurance payments when we're doing our belay checks

also it turns out that my jar of bourbon-soaked cherries is now hosting its very own mold colony and my Manhattan is now cherry-less. This is extremely vexing
