Please just fast forward to mid October when everything having to do with this move is (hopefully, if I don't have to take my landlord to a legal battle) all over and completely behind us. My tank is running on empty and we're nowhere near done

I'm a disabled little peasant. I'm not winning against those guys without substantial proof. Even then, who knows what they'll try to pull that will cost us even more than losing our deposits.

I've just decided to make my peace with us not getting our damage deposit back, but there is no reason not to get our pet deposits, which, again, one of them was illegal to charge us in the first place.

But if I don't have those documents, I'm fucked. The owner of our building is a mega corp, the leaders of which my sister has worked with and says they are absolutely horrible people, especially the guy in charge of rentals.

I asked my LL to send me the missing documents which as I understand he has to do, but it would mean hurting corporate's chance to steal our money so I'm not counting on it happening

I'll at least have proof that I asked and he did not comply, but I'm worried that taking him to the tenancy board would result in him making other successful claims against me and we could end up in serious debt

From our security deposit, so the tenants can bleed money to prepare the unit for the new tenants (your job, your dollar which you have and I don't) and then you can still make up reasons to keep their money which they desperately need right now

They illegally charged us a second pet deposit for our snake but we don't have any documentation of the first deposit we paid, so if they wanted to just keep one of those deposits we would have no way to prove that they stole from us

Such as hiring professional cleaners to clean the apartment unit and paying for a flea inspection which altogether sets me back around another $500 on top of the deposits and prorated rent, and on top of charging a whole month rent for two weeks occupancy...

Doing shit that is straight up illegal or at least questionable but counting on tenants either not knowing their rights or being too tired and financially vulnerable to challenge them legally. Saying every unclean item in the unit (according to their judgement) will lead to more deductions

The level of evil it takes to see people who are getting kicked out of their Affordable Housing because the govt decided they were making too much money (despite one person being kept below the poverty line by disability welfare)...

And knowing how stressful and expensive moving is and how, even for people with money, it's a very financially vulnerable time, still making them pay out of pocket for things most landlords would do themselves...
