Something important to remember is that when we talk about protecting sex workers, we don't just mean from sexual predators or serial killers. There are several ways sex workers can experience violence. Here's a few of them:

"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all." Arthur C. Clarke

ABC never, ever should have settled that Trump lawsuit. All they succeeded in doing was showing him that they’ll be willing to pay to make a headache go away. Now that Trump’s team knows that for certain, now they know they can do it going forward. This lawsuit was a proving ground.

Look, I don’t want to be *that* person & I *do* think this is worth doing— However— A Constitution is simply a piece of paper that we choose to imbue with power. It only works because we all agree it does. There’s evidence to suggest that the upcoming Administration does not feel the same way.

More that 120 Democratic lawmakers have called on Biden to take a key step toward protecting millions of Americans from Trump’s far-right agenda by ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment. A constitutional guarantee against sex discrimination would strengthen the protection of reproductive rights.

I'm what's called "silent homeless". I couchsurf, so I'm not exposed to the elements and constant public eye / judgment / ridicule. It's definitely a privilege to be able to be silent homeless. At the same time, there's absolutely no privilege in being #homeless. #houselesssky #classconsciousness

In the United States, we talk a lot about “fundamental rights” But what does that really mean? Here’s a definition: Rights without which liberty and justice could not exist; rights that are implicit in the concept of ordered liberty. 🧵 1/2

These rights are derived from natural law & therefore should receive the highest form of constitutional protection. Please consider this in the future when you hear a court’s decision. Is it in alignment with or in direct conflict? This is a litmus test of the health of a democracy. 2/2

“Whenever people say, 'We mustn't be sentimental’, you can take it they are about to do something cruel. And if they add, ‘We must be realistic’, they mean they are going to make money out of it.” —Brigid Brophy

Everything in here rings so true that it almost causes a PTSD response. The part about having to perform pain perfectly to get treatment is so painfully true, depression in slow motion.

America's healthcare system isn’t just broken; it’s often cruel. Here's a piece I wrote for Harper’s about chronic pain sufferers cut off from their medication—a story of destructive drug policy, medical abandonment, and the nightmare of untreated pain, as insurers refused to cover essential care.

Replying to @brian-goldstone.bsky.social

A patient advocate just sent me several messages she's received in recent years about people’s experiences with inadequately treated pain. These stories are horrific.

Reclaiming our communities from the car is about more than saving the planet. It’s about saving ourselves from the unsafe, unjust, unhealthy, unloveable places where we live. Sixteen books we read this year that changed how we think about the process of building cities: an #UrbanismBookClub thread.

Just because you can read the Constitution, doesn’t mean you understand it. As an American, you don’t just have the right to read it— you also have the right to know what your rights are. What good are knowing the words if you don’t know the meaning behind them? Dedicate yourself to *that* fight.

But just in case you’re experiencing a similar thought pattern, please consider the following: A huge portion of people were illiterate when the Constitution was drafted and for hundreds of years after— that’s regardless of whether it was typed or in cursive.

Please be mindful of the videos you watch, the accounts you follow and the blogs you read. It’s very easy to fall into a political paranoia spiral in such a low-trust media environment.

Keeping people illiterate is absolutely a political move but no longer teaching cursive is not the conspiracy here. Defunding the DoE, misinformation campaigns, ending civics classes, & allowing unsubstantiated opinions to be labeled as news are the conspiracies against the Constitution.
