In all seriousness, Vance’s unhinged diatribe really reminds me that this country is in dire straits. I can’t even wrap my mind around how bad things are and how impossible everything feels. How are we supposed to stay here and write and stay like… alive?

Hey, you guys? If you know where Lara Trump put Charlamagne, my DMs are open!!!

where did lara trump put charlamagne? where did lara trump put charlamagne? where did lara trump put charlamagne? where did lara trump put charlamagne? where did lara trump put charlamagne? where did lara trump put charlamagne? WHERE DID LARA TRUMP PUT CHARLAMAGNE???

I don't think the failure to release the files is primarily about Trump's appearance there. Like Epstein's point in keeping the files in the first place, knowing those names is POWER. See also: SCOTUS wins, media capitulations, law firms showing their bellies. I think these things are related.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

New in PN: Why Epstein has Trump crashing out "At this point, Trump might as well release all the files. They can’t do any more damage than he does himself whenever he opens his mouth on the subject."

MAGA doesn't care if Trump's name is there. The military, currently reshaped in his image, does not care - or won't much longer. GOP legislators don't care. I remain unconvinced that shielding Trump - rather than hoarding power and cashing in on the knowledge - is the point.

5/ NPR should put together a feed of stories that are about rural America from across all of its offerings, that stations could run. For example, I just listened to a Living on Earth segment on how flooding is overwhelming rural septic systems. Very timely coverage for rural communities

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it. They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory. Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human. Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

Thinking right now about that period 14 months ago when lefties were portraying Joe Biden as something akin to a fascist dictator. I took a lot of heat for saying people were being ridiculous and that those attacks on Biden would age extremely poorly if Trump won. And now here we are.

This is *such* a great story. Especially when the developer behind this US Attorney’s phantom apartment tries to bully the Times Union reporter: “I know many many people at Fox. Such action would induce me to pen an op-ed in the NY Post”

Noah Rosenblum@narosenblum.bsky.social

Apparently Trump’s US Attorney for NDNY doesn’t live in the district, in violation of the law, lied about it, and consorts with a convicted fraudster. And the @timesunion.com remains the best in the business of the New York print dailies. www.timesunion.com/capitol/arti...

And? "The workers". The other class of people Trump recognizes. 1.) Extremely rich people 2.) "The workers".

This is so predictable, the only surprise is that he hadn’t already tried to kill Juneteenth sooner as a DEI holiday. He probably forgot it existed.

In the Handbook for Grooms: How To Marry Well, this picture accompanies the "Lessons Regarding Edibles" in chapter 3 as but one example of why it would not, no, be "just so funny" if you smeared your bride's face with the wedding cake without her consent.

Honestly, folks. As a historian, every day I wonder what new assault on the democratic process awaits us from the executive branch. The revolutionary generation knew that they were living in world-changing times. So are we. We need to live up to this challenge.

With all eyes on ICE and the national guard, guess who else's "extracurricular activities" snuck under the radar? That's right, the good old LAPD ... ⤵️ Great to see the PD that gave us Mark Fuhrman and the Rodney King 4 staying true to its traditions. Mayor Bass ‬did you see this? @mayor.lacity.gov

If I could sue Trump for faking an assassination attempt, this actual photo alongside the staged "fight, fight" photo would be my entire case. Shot in the ear? I AM A GOD AMONG MEN. Had a little six inch stumble? OHMIGOD I MIGHT DIE.

This is 🏆 “The problem with speaking up for each other is that everyone is left without a voice.” What I heard here: the struggles of the oppressed are only taken seriously or heard through the voices of their oppressors.

I just think there needs to be more attention paid to the uniquely creepy, mendacious, awfulness of Speaker Mike Johnson. Don’t underestimate the depth of his ambition and breadth of what he is willing to do to never return to Shreveport.

Trying to be graceful with the desire of some pundits to have a "Joe Rogan for the left" because I understand they're attempting to offer an approach, and yet, it's very difficult to be graceful when it's clear they understand neither Joe Rogan nor the left but are treated as though they do.

Eighty years ago, enemies laid down their arms. Since then, we, Europeans, have built something extraordinary: a Union of peace, democracy, and solidarity. An anchor of stability. Our Union was born as a peace project, and it remains one today.

Over the weekend, a video I’m in went viral on TikTok. Let me tell you what happened. On Friday, I was riding the el in Chicago. There was a young man sleeping across three very uncomfortable seats. His jeans were ripped and his shoes were too big for his feet. It was cold out. 1/🧵

Virginia Foxx is afraid to face her constituents — that's why she hasn't held a town hall in 15 years. She doesn't care what you think, but I do. That's why my campaign is hosting public town halls all across NC-05, starting with Greensboro on May 8 and Boone on May 12.

I'd like to point out that I see this reflected in our extended local protests - even in deep red pockets where a protest has a single person, that person has been, three in four times, gen-Boom. Blowing it up. It delights me, insofar as "delight" is a thing now.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

What I want to know is how the government made a deal to allow Tate out of Romania to go to Florida, but the government says it can't arrange to get a person who was illegally deported back here from El Salvador.

We’re launching a new DNC War Room. We are going to compete in every information space and put Trump and the Republicans on the defense every day. At this very moment, Trump is actively wrecking our country. He can’t go unchallenged.

Donald Trump has been the president of the United States for 77 days. (The next presidential inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2029. Assuming that actually and legitimately happens, can you really afford another 1,384 days of this?)

Let's be clear that this thing Trump just said about having no trade deficits with any country would be far more radical, more disruptive, and more expensive, than every single leftist dream you have ever heard put together, including Medicare for All, Guaranteed Housing, and Universal Basic Income.

He is not equating Trump with God in this anecdote. God, in this anecdote, is behind the arrival of the would-be rescuers. He is equating Trump with the dying man's perception of God - which is markedly different from God. That's the point - that Trump supporters' perception is lethally flawed.

Eric Segall@espinsegall.bsky.social

I don’t have the words to explain how I feel when our country’s leading originalist equates Trump with God. I really don’t.
