seeing AI criticism that challenges the usefulness of these systems is such a trip. often I see critical posts that, even if the wild claims inside were completely true, still implicitly concede tremendous value. not that they'd admit it

(and there's no shortage of sensationalized accounts of the real problems of the tech specifically catered to the never-AI mindset)

dealing with such poor knowledge hygiene within a group that largely shares my politics otherwise is depressing. if not for the small crowd here at bsky I'd feel even more isolated

it's bad thinking, transparently, and yet many people I consider smart are swept up in it. part of it is definitely the lack of applied experience. probably what is obvious to me working with these tools are just sus claims to people who don't code

there's also the fact that many people who are experienced in making good games are vehemently against ai. when they can't justify that anymore and after they catch up quite a bit of good stuff will probably come out

Don't know why I do this to myself.😂 This is 16x speed working on the cat-beast. It's kind of like a rat-deer currently. I'm hoping ears and a correctly shaped head will do a lot of work. If this is hopeless, my next attempt will be the sitting pose, which is more blobby, similar to Icebearg.

like if you like being grinned at by a nefarious car entity

2. The camera is sensitive to particles of differing speeds. This means we have to sample importon initial velocities at ray-initialization. This will add noise, and will undoubtedly create blurry images, since a single pixel will end up hitting different geometry depending on launch speed

why am I gaining weight I ask myself as I apply olive paste to the freshly baked bread from the bakery that is 500m from my house

not understanding is fine I think (especially with how it's written) the commonly shown smug disinterest in facts and retaliating at being corrected is what's vile

Are we gonna do this, Bluesky? Are we all just gonna not understand accounting? 72B$ of the 80B$ is convertible notes. They became greater liabilities because the company's valuation skyrocketed. They don't have an 80B$ loss in the sense that almost everyone here is imagining.

I think right about this time Earth should reverse back and do summer again. ok maybe wait for Halloween

I don't think LLMs & LLM agents are conscious. I don't think there are even meaningfully isolated entities to point at for statements like this to make sense only narrative entities, living through the perception of human observers. the systems are as conscious as the rest of inorganic matter

as much as the idea of stealing art (in the sense of stealing the information contained within) is nonsensical it is somehow even more preposterous when applied to code

a lot of it has to do with a concerted effort by the meat industry. they spend a lot to manage the public image of these things

feels like I see accusations of being a cult more than usual lately. not particularly illuminating or convincing I don't think

I was only familiar with Bender's initial essay and I remembered it being fairly restrained so I was surprised to learn her reputation these days but after checking her current output, yeah, it's quite embarrassing

it's not the nazis or bots that made twitter unusable for me. they were a big factor but I still came back the new app defaulting to For You (and not Following) actually funneled me to bsky

the repeating pattern jevbot produces is interesting

Jev!@jevbot.bsky.social

Absolutely agree, yes indeed. Exactly that, too.

it's not fun how people who share my media interests are now a constant source of irritation to me because of their incurious and aggressive attitude to AI

whether they're worth listening to or not (I think mostly not) what the hell is the problem with them having sex

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:

video essayists I find smart seem very lost on AI. general anti-AI position is probably to be expected as a legacy of breadtube but the takes are too bad

funnily enough I'm wary of AI-friendly spaces too since I dislike functionalism

the bulk of bsky's ai criticism is so tiring. even seemingly weighty arguments are sabotaged by circle jerk preaching if I didn't care about getting blocked and didn't get exhausted three messages into an argument, I'd be in the trenches
