Breaking: A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted on Wednesday in favor of a blood test for multiple cancers. The Galleri test is designed to help screen for cancers before symptoms appear, but some experts say more research is needed before approval.

I LOVE the Abhorsen series and it is seriously underrated*. Now I need to go listen to the audiobook pronto! *I pick all of our lab computer names from the Abhorsen family tree😂

Tim Curry's reading of the Sabriel series is probably my favorite audiobook? Most libraries will have it available, I think! He had wonderful material to work with (I really like this series), and his reading really transported me.

Just had my daily reminder of how wonderful the NIH peeps are who handle all of the work involved in managing grants for those of us out here in extramural land. The NIH staff really are the best humans, working so hard to ensure that the science can continue in incredibly challenging times.

You could give me a detailed meteorological explanation for what's happening and I would still absolutely refuse to think a *single* rude thought in that cloud's general direction.

Phrased that wrong! More accurate: 5-6 *days* of Claude prompts ~ one -80 freezer daily use (15-20 kWh) ~ half of a regular US house (or one entire day for a small apartment)

The entire thread is worth reading. But I want to sidebar to ask *who* thought caffeine-infused pantaloons would ever be a good idea?!!

And I guess at the time infusing compression garments with caffeine was a thing? It was supposed to make you lose weight or Idek it was all a scam. google.com/amp/s/amp.theg…

I'm so lucky to have multiple people giving me detailed grant feedback! But I think I need to add a disclaimer about my 10+ yrs of experience publishing short stories before I was a PI. I'm used to evisceration of every word choice. Editing is love! I want to see red dripping from the page! In short

Like, I *wish* people had served up these many compliment sandwiches when I was twelve years old and attending writing workshops to get feedback on my book drafts😂.

These are an amazing form of science communication! Torn between Whooping Cough or Rabies as my favorite. Wouldn't it be great if they put out a series of one-shot mangas for each disease describing their infection lifecycle?

Second, what LLMs do is make papier-mâché of their input. So you could put in the best, most carefully curated sources in the world and what would come out would still be some kind of slurry. >>
