"The simple act of an ordinary brave man is not to participate in lies, not to support false actions! His rule: Let that come into the world, let it even reign supreme—only not through me." --Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

You can believe, as I do, that Paramount paid Trump a $16 million bribe to approve their deal and still believe that 2 million nightly viewers ain't shit, and Colbert was cancelled legitimately. That's like half of what frickin' PewDiePie gets, only with far more overhead. Not to mention...

Linear TV is a dying medium and the late night talk show format created by Steve Allen makes less sense in the 21st century. People can get their celebrity fix from their phone, they're not going to wait for a time slot for a six-minute puff interview. Colbert will be back in podcast form.

I really underestimated how much hatred for immigrants there was in this country. Even when I was a Republican (eons ago) I believed the "we're only against illegal immigration" rhetoric. But they don't even say that anymore. They're openly against non-white and poor immigrants, no sugar-coating.

“In great empires the people who live in the capital, and in the provinces remote from the scene of action, feel, many of them scarce any inconveniency from the war; but enjoy, at their ease, the amusement of reading in the newspapers the exploits of their own fleets and armies.” —Adam Smith

I agree with this article except on one point, Trump clings to the Reaganite notion that you can *always* grow your way out of a tax rate "cut" and that deficits don't matter. And he embraces some of the deregulatory *rhetoric*. But apart from that he's an 80s protectionist Democrat all the way.

reason.comDonald Trump sounds like a Democrat from the 1980sOne of the most entertaining recent social media love fests involved President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.). Warren wrote that

FWIW I’m a Christian and I’m adamantly opposed to vigilante violence against politicians, abortionists, etc. People like Vance Boelter are why I haven’t been in a church in years.

FYI, this unanimous decision doesn’t say that her claim is true or false, it only says that the lower court cannot use a different standard for white or heterosexual people when deciding such cases. The case will resume at the lower court with the uniform standard. #scotus #discrimination #law

I would really love to sit down with these types of people and ask them as politely as I can muster where on Earth they got the idea that Trump would be good on the economy, and that he wouldn’t be a protectionist dictator on day one LIKE HE LITERALLY PROMISED.

I read the letter the GOP sent to Harvard. All the citations are for published research. PUBLISHED. As in publicly available. As in nothing whatsoever to do with “secrets”. There is zero security risk here, nothing nefarious. This is a bunch of pols not understanding how research is done.

It can’t be overstated how important foreign students and faculty are to America’s status as a scientific superpower, both historically and presently. Whether maliciously or ignorantly, Trump continues to destroy the pillars holding up the institutions that make America great.

apnews.comTrump administration bars Harvard from enrolling foreign studentsThe Trump administration has revoked Harvard University’s ability to enroll international students in its escalating battle with the Ivy League school.

I’m guilty of turning a blind eye, more because I don’t trust anything Trumpers say than for partisan reasons, but guilty nonetheless. We should all admit our mistakes.
