We built a calculator that doesn't work, but don't worry, it's also a plagiarism machine that will tell you to kill yourself. It runs on the world's oceans and costs 10 trillion dollars.

Donald is suing Rupert Murdoch for the WSJ story. Murdoch met with JD “Vivian” Vance last week. Vance's rise was funded by billionaire Peter Thiel. Thiel recently hesitated when asked if the human race should continue. So, if you want to skip the salad and have fries instead, I support you.

Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, Christopher Rufo… Since the election, the New York Times has presented these extremists - who are radically opposed to democracy and are influential in pushing staunchly authoritarian ideas and policies - as interesting, respectable thinkers and serious interlocutors.

An especially poignant (which is saying something) appeal from the ever-vigilant @marisakabas.bsky.social Don’t let your attention wander from human suffering : this is not a distraction

NEW — Kelvin Membreño will be deported to El Salvador by ICE tomorrow. He’s the birth father of three US citizen daughters and has become an important part of their lives. Here their adoptive mother makes a last ditch plea to let him stay in the same country as the girls. A gutting guest essay:

At one of the talks I was giving to college faculty last week I mused off the top of my head that the first handful of institutions that pivot AWAY from AI and promise a human/bespoke experience in their marketing will have a positioning advantage. Not everyone is looking for the AI-forward place.

We’re eliminating programs that save millions of people from disease And ending a lot of research that has cured diseases and will cure more Because we need to funnel resources into AI Because someday it may be able to figure out cures for disease Do I have that right?

The Pope literally dying after scolding JD Vance on Easter would be such a condemnation for any real devout catholic. I hope Vance feels that for the rest of his disgusting vacuous life.

It struck a chord because it's true. As I write in More Than Words, the chief benefit of LLMs to writing (and teaching writing) is it forces us to examine what we value in writing. We should be building statues of the students who remain proud to be themselves & encourage others to join them.

Watching Tombstone for the first time in 15? years and god it is so corny and still so good. Every single guy ever is in it. The score and editing suck. Every second Val Kilmer isn’t on the screen is torture. It rules

There is live footage online of Rumeysa Ozturk’s arrest

They are arresting people on the streets, terminating their visas, and disappearing them for writing things they disagree with. This is where we are. Two months in. Right now. If you think they won’t begin coming after citizens soon, you are mistaken.
