"There was talk about how the corpse, back when it was a man named Steve, wasn’t particularly full of life. How he didn’t particularly light up a room when he entered it. In fact, no one ever noticed when he was in the room." - Joseph Linscott mrbullbull.com/newbull/fict...

so many more interesting things—and just as many annoying things!—happening in literature in 2025. wtf are we doing here, man?

I want to popularize a term of art for this particular litfic genre trope: the Sad Boner Professor. It's a novel about a Professor (usually of American Literature). He is Sad. Also, he has a Boner. His boner is inordinately interested in the sexy, sexy student: also, he's sad because: wife. /1

Rejection was the best book I’ve read so far this year. So great

Dan Sinykin@dan-sinnamon.bsky.social

Amid all the idiot chatter about men and reading, men and writing, some of the best books I've read lately are by men about masculinity, and instead of baseless whingeing, we could be talking about these: Mark Haber, Lesser Ruins Tony Tulathimutte, Rejection Andrew Lipstein, Something Rotten

How to interpet Goodreads’ ratings Book I like is poorly rated: I’m smarter than most so I just *got* it Book I don’t like is poorly rated: yes yes that’s exactly it, public opinion can’t be doubted

Kinda forgot that Pederson still has his job so seeing him quoted in this was a jump scare

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence expected to play vs. Texans, coach Doug Pederson says: Lawrence was sidelined with a left shoulder injury and has not played since Week 9.

convinced that there are people who love trump for no other reason than that he gave them a personality, however rancid it might be

If your family started doing this at Thanksgiving dinner, what would you do? 😳

The quickest way for me to lose total respect for a person is to hear them brag about the work they were able to push onto an AI program Life is so short, please just fill your human mind with tasks and hobbies that you actually enjoy/find meaning in

Why do either of these things then? It would be “laborious and slow” to do research? That’s just what doing research is! If you don’t want to do that, then don’t! The pub quiz one… I just… maybe find a new way to enjoy a bar?

The defensiveness/cope of Broncos fans is really admirable when the team is bad and really really annoying when they have any sort of expectations

Robert Mays @robertmays.bsky.social

Every season, there is a new fanbase who gets very weird about their QB. This year, I am sad to report that it's the Broncos.

Discussing Bluesky migration in terms of liberal flight misses the simple fact that most people use social media for fun not influence and this platform, unlike X and cruddified Facebook, doesn’t feel like you’re wading through shit to reach your friends. It’s not that deep.

“Mister Pastor looks at me incredulous. Like: How stupid can you be? I blankly return his stare: Pretty fucking stupid.”

As lush and evocative now as it was when I first read it a decade-ish ago. The exact kind of dreamscape needed right now

Every time I listen to BTC I'm flooded with admiration (and a scrap of jealousy) for how thoughtful and incisive @davidnaimon.bsky.social is

Rob Spillman@robspillman.bsky.social

Between the Covers is one of the most thoughtful, thought-provoking lit podcasts going and @davidnaimon.bsky.social has excellent curatorial chops. If you're looking for a literary podcast and podcaster starter pack, this is it.

Split Lip has a new issue dropping tomorrow, and honestly, after last week's election, doing literary work suddenly seems more important than ever. The arts feel life-or-death. Powerful. Meaningful. An absolutely essential form of resistance. An affirmation of truth & beauty & our humanity.
