Privacy software can get complicated quickly. There are operating systems to replace, apps to swap, networks to understand & settings buried several menus deep. You don’t need to use all of them. But these tools show how 1 privacy expert approaches everyday technology 👇 proton.me/blog/privacy...

proton.me7 privacy tools experts actually use | ProtonExplore privacy tools that privacy experts use for everyda, from GrapheneOS and Organic Maps to Qubes OS, F-Droid, Cape, Tor, and VPNs.

Looking to send confidential information to a journalist? Write the email in Proton Mail, add a password, and set when it expires. They don’t need a Proton account. They get a link. Send them the password elsewhere. We saw it in a movie... 😂

Looks like whoever stole my Amazon package was also planning to go as Mark Zuckerberg for Halloween

Keep the document next to the login that needs it. Proton Pass lets you attach files to your login, note, identity and card items, so tax paperwork or a passport backup is right there when you need it. Available on paid plans.

Stop texting passwords, leaving trails of credentials in random group chats forever! Proton Pass Secure Links share a login, card or note with anyone; they do not even need a Proton account

On paid plans you can add multiple forwarding mailboxes per alias under Settings → Aliases, and set any of them as the default for all aliases. A shared "household bills" alias can reach both partners without either giving out a personal address.

a surprising positive outcome from this reporting: yesterday, in direct response to my piece, @proton.me announced that it would grant a free one-year Drive subscription to any nonprofit affected by Microsoft's switch-up: proton.me/business/blo...

proton.meNonprofits report data loss after Microsoft software grant ends | ProtonA new report alleges Microsoft locked nonprofits out of years of data. Here's what you need to know and what you can do about it.

Frustrated about having to re-enter your information on online checkouts and forms? Proton Pass can store your identity, allowing you to autofill these details quickly and easily. Simple.

Looking to better organize your passwords, or store credentials in different buckets? With Vaults in Proton Pass you can group credentials together with a title, icon, and even a custom color scheme.

Proton Pass now has an SSH Agent. One unlock covers everything. No passphrase per connection. No scattered files. No terminal gymnastics. Gradually rolling out now to Visionary, B2B Bundles, Pass Professional, Plus, and Family. Desktop only.

Hosting this weekend? Save yourself the hassle of giving out the WiFi password, over and over, by saving it in Pass and then sharing by secure link. Time and view limit it so your credentials are only shown as much as they need to be.

Struggle to come up with passwords? It's 2026, you don't need to bother. Proton Pass has an inbuilt generator so you can create a login alongside a secure password: set, and forget.

They made a p-e2ee-nut butter sandwich in the end.

AI knows more about you than any other technology. Most mine your data to train their models and profile your behavior, which later gets sold to advertisers. Lumo doesn’t. And it just got a massive upgrade. Here’s Lumo 2.0, the world’s most-private AI ⬇️ 🧵 1/6

If you use Gmail, you need to read this. Google’s AI, Gemini, can read your emails, attachments, bank statements, etc. For many, this feature was switched on without consent. Here's how to turn it off 🧵 1/

Here's the catch with all of this. Settings get reset. Re-prompted. Quietly changed in the next update. You're opting out of a system that's designed to be on. So make sure that you periodically check to ensure they’re off. 6/

For the emails that actually matter (medical, legal, financial), keep them somewhere that can't scan them in the first place. Proton Mail is E2EE, so no one can read your inbox, not even us. Switch over to Proton and finally ditch Gmail: proton.me/easyswitch 7/7

proton.meMigrate your email account to Proton Mail with Easy Switch | ProtonEasy Switch lets you easily move your emails from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and other providers to Proton Mail with one-click. Proton is a more private alternative.

The off switch exists; it's just split across places. On desktop: Settings ➔ See all settings ➔ Smart features ➔ untick the box. Then, same page: Google Workspace smart features ➔ Manage Workspace smart feature settings ➔ untick both boxes. 2/

Now your phone, because it often doesn't sync: Android: Settings ➔ Your account ➔ Uncheck "Smart features" ➔ Go to "Google Workspace smart features" ➔ Toggle off both options 3/

Do you need 2FA? Of course you do, you're on the internet, it's full of people trying to get into your accounts. You can either put your TOTP codes inside Proton Pass OR download our dedicated Authenticator app. (One of these is better, but we respect your ability to choose)

Google is killing adblockers in Chrome. The company that sells ads also controls a browser that so many people use. Convenient.

Attending any World Cup games? ⚽ If someone asks for your email to get into a fanzone, or to get some goodies, hit them with one of these. You're welcome!

If you understand this meme, congrats; your main email is protected by an army of aliases 😉
