I run PSKReporter (https://pskreporter.info) and https://weather.gladstonefamily.net My day job is in computer security, so I'm happy to talk about any of these....

Went to see #OperationMincemeat last night — great show. My mother actually lived next door to Jean Leslie (though she was Jean Gerard Leigh by then). I went to school with one of her kids. I wish that I had asked her questions. This is a reminder to talk to people while they are still alive!

I'm talking about #PSKReporter at #PACIFICON on the 17th at 9AM. Lots of cool new stuff to present!

Am I the only person who sees bugs in many websites? In the last hour, I tried to pay a @bankofamerica.bsky.social credit card — but I needed to edit the HTML to set my country as 'United States'. Also, paying Chase credit card I had to enter text into a disabled field to pass local validation.

After 14 years at @bitsight.bsky.social, I'm hanging up my hat and finally retiring. I'm going to be spending time working on #pskreporter — we got a grant from NCDXF to move the system to a more modern platform. I'm also looking for volunteers to help in this activity. lnkd.in/p/gjJ8CDgi

#eclipse From Calton Hill, Edinburgh, Scotland. The clouds kept on covering the sun and then clearing. We gave eclipse glasses to adjacent groups of people (I had bought a 12 pack from Amazon. 10 got delivered, and the rest got distributed.)

My line voltage today has a nasty dip in it. The lights in my home office dimmed noticeably for a while.

I just don't understand. I ordered a tree from Lowes. It shipped from Tennessee by Fedex 2Day. The retail price of the shipping was ~$760. My tree cost me ~$62 with free shipping. Someone is getting a raw deal here and it wasn't me! Tree looks healthy and undamaged.

Which hose manufacturer makes a hose with this profile? This makes the hose effectively unrepairable (even if you try and cut off the wart -- you can't get it to be watertight). Built-in obsolescence. Grrrrr.

Argh! I blew out on #Wordle today -- and broke my 275 day streak. The wordlebot says that the average solution took 5.3 guesses, but it didn't reveal how many people failed today. Anybody else prepared to admit failure?

@wx1box.bsky.social In Carlisle, MA at 1800: 7.3" since this moirning for a total of 9.8" in the last 24 hours. No wind. Big drifts. Lot of shovelling ahead. Temp 27F. Now 24" on the ground. Spotter #15-557

@wx1box In Carlisle, MA at 0900: 2.5" on the board, but that seems small. Temp 24F. Deep drifts. Spotter #15-557

@wx1box.bsky.social With long duration snowstorms, how should snowfall be measured? I.e. how often should I reset the snowboard? Over the weekend, I reset at 8AM on Monday and recorded very little extra snow. I suspect that had I reset at 8PM on Sunday as well, then my totals would have been higher.

@wx1box.bsky.social In Carlisle MA at 0810: 12.2" snow on the board. Temp 13F. Have reset snowboard. Snow falling very lightly. Drifting overnight. #15-557 More than 2 ft on the front walkway in places.

@wx1box.bsky.social In Carlisle, MA at 2105: 10.7" snow on the board (i.e. storm total so far). Some drifting especially by house. Temp 11F. Spotter #15-557. Snow now over the top of my boots in places. I need longer boots!

Got a couple of old disposable cameras developed. This was an early attempt by my daughter to take a mirror selfie. Her modern work is*much* better!

Trying Google's Gemini image tool to colorize old pictures: Starting with the black and white image, and then two different colorization attempts. It is notable that it omitted the person in one case, also the steam blowing downards in both. Original was probably shot on orthochromatic film.

I'm actually pretty impressed -- I just installed a couple of Ubiquiti NanoStation 5AC units to connect the house to the barn. I was using a couple of their APs in a mesh, but it wouldn't stay connected once leaves appeared on the trees! Now it appears that I get a stable 100Mbps connection!

Just spent many hours debugging my #Unifi network. Symptom: high packet loss/vary variable latency. Running `top` on the AP showed 0% idle and very high sirq (??). This was due to a lot of multicast traffic on the wired side. U6 LR not affected -- I guess it does multicast filtering in hardware!

Just been told that I'm too old to sit in an airplane exit row! Apparently you have to be between 15 and 60 for this airline. The online check-in assigned me this seat ☹️

I got a an MR merged in #Wireshark so that it now decodes the IPFIX packets sent to #PSKReporter correctly -- the issue had been bugging me for years, and I should have done the MR much sooner as it turned out to be a trivial fix! Thanks to the maintainers...

Sitting in my car, waiting for my daughter at a bus station, and a pizza delivery guy shows up with 26 large pizzas for a bunch of kids also waiting. Teenagers be very hungry!!

This is a good an important piece but let's not overlook the bit where retired French railway workers are casually running a Batcave for train nerds
