PLEASE SHARE THIS To the young person (longish dark hair, patterned waistcoat, chinos & DM boots) who left this scroll of papers on the Piccadilly Line train at South Kensington station at about 4.25pm today, I’ve handed it to the station staff at Hammersmith.

No lie detected.

One of the most fatuous conceits of the economically powerful establishment elite is only they work hard. In my experience, the rich hardly work, while some of the most hard working people you'll ever meet are poor as dirt. I wish people could think a bit more seriously about distributional ethics.

I've already voted for Simon.

Sharon Graham 'told the Sunday Times that Miliband’s fierce commitment to net zero would be a “noose around the neck” of job creation.' Lets tell Sharon that climate change is a 'noose around all our necks' Just 10% of Unite members voted last time around, let's tell Sharon.... #StopRosebank

Some reflections on the new Cabinet. It started well, with some deserved sackings - Reed, Lammy, Reeves, Kyle, Kendall. Politically, Healey as Chancellor, swerving both Miliband and Mahmood, was smart. But we now have a CX who wants to cut benefits to spend more on defence.

I will acknowledge I like the pledge to end rough sleeping, and the promise to provide immediate help with the cost of living. Taking VAT off electricity bills, though, will do no more than slow down how quickly things are getting worse. A lot more is needed quickly.

Bottom line for me. Some of the key things that have driven voters away are the racism, transphobia, suppression of dissent and benefits slashing, and Burnham has kept in post the Ministers responsible for every one of these things.

Miliband as FS makes sense. Almost a shame he can't carry on the good work he was doing, but I hear good things about his replacement. Good to see Haigh and Rayner back. But from there it is almost all bad. Nandy - why? Mahmood - WHYYYYYYYYYY? Slasher McFadden kept at the DWP.

OK, this already makes him a better PM than Starmer. Other free things he could do immediately to keep people listening: 1. Come off X 2. Sack Mahmood 3. De-proscribe Palestine Action and free all those arrested in connection with it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

If you are a Unite member and want more climate action (not less), look out for the ballot paper which should arrive in the next couple of days. Sharon Graham has argued for more drilling in the North Sea and briefed against Ed Miliband because of his work on net zero. Time to dump Sharon!

France v Morocco Thursday, 9.00 pm Spain v Belgium Friday, 8.00 pm England v Norway Saturday, 10.00 pm. Argentina v Switzerland Sunday, 2.00 am That rules out local time zone issues as the excuse for effing around with start times. So it’s just another pointless farcical decision from the US.

Dodgy rules delaying matches Random start times Ridiculous distances between venues Hydration breaks Banning a Somali ref The treatment of the Iran team Players and officials harassed by border guards and police And now the corrupt rescinding of Balogun’s ban The most farcical and corrupt WC ever?

Why would the opposing team in the match care about the future suspension? Who could be a more interested party than the team being forced to play against a player who should be suspended? It’s corruption on corruption.

Signed. We able-bodied cishet white men may be the last people to lose our rights. But lose them we will unless we stand up for and with everyone else.

🚨 WE NEED YOU 🚨 As a new Prime Minister comes into power, we want to show that an overwhelming number of people support trans people, and want the government to take serious action to protect their rights. Will you say you stand with trans people? And share with everyone you know?

Here's an off the wall thought. Today's politics are about the rich and powerful seeking policies that push the general public down Maslow's hierarchy of needs so that they are too worried about their basic needs to worry about things like accountability for the wrongdoing of the wealthy.

Actual result. Why does anyone take any notice of opinion polls for by-elections? And why do polls keep overestimating Reform?

This sounds like an appalling case. I hope it's looked at again. But I really would have hoped that a former human rights barrister PM would have had the sense to say, "This is a live matter before the courts, and it would be wholly inappropriate for me to comment". www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

For the Greens, DD said that +393 seats, their highest % gain, should be in reach, with a higher end target of +572. A flurry of good results in the last 7 councils to declare left them on +441. More significant is that they came second in the National Equivalent Vote. As for Reform, good but...

For the Lib Dems, meh. Sorry guys. Matching average gains from 2022-24 would have been +210. They got just +155. They have consolidated where they are already strong, but have not expanded the map at all.

For the Tories -342 would be the worst defence rate for the main Opposition. -500 would take them below a fifth of all Councillors. They managed -563. It was always going to be bad, but this was at the worse end of expectations.

For Labour, DD favoured context over apocalyptic predictions. -1350 would take them <25% of Councillors for the first time since 2011. -1687 would have been a worse rate of defence than last year's record low. They managed -1496. Don't let Labour's happy talk disguise that this was awful.

For Reform DD thought a target of around 1700 gains would be to the lower end of expectations. They actually gained 1451. You can't dispute it was a good night for them, but not as good as they hoped.
