open.substack.comLinebacker Block Deconstruction GlossaryA collection of block deconstruction fundamentals and techniques for NFL linebackers.

20 July

I spent a lot of time studying linebackers this offseason. In doing so, I got a spark to put together a glossary of sorts on how linebackers beat blocks. So, here is that glossary. Over a dozen techniques and tools to beat blocks, supported by film examples. open.substack.com/pub/qbklass/...

Brandon Cisse has made so much progress for the Packers in just the last two weeks. His ball skills are already really, really impressive.

I don’t like that I watch Matthew Golden and think about Jerry Jeudy

single high on the next 4th and short, and Love does indeed bomb them down the field lol. damned if you do damned if you dont I suppose

Derrik Klassen@qbklass.bsky.social

Detroit playing with their safeties in Narnia on the 4th and 2 on that drive out of respect for what Green Bay can do down the field. Made it easy to convert underneath and find the end zone a few plays later

okay sorta not really.. funky C2 rotation with invert to the field, keeps the boundary S wide and GB throw the seam across his face. good ball from GB either way

Quay Walker trust your teammate

Rams OL resetting the line of scrimmage so well on every run

death by 1000 boot to flat concepts from the Rams

insane three-play roller coaster from Cam Ward lmfao

does anyone full sprint into the left sideline and then double back as often as Brock Purdy does? usually works out pretty well for him

the power of friendship

Panthers caught Bucs spinning to a weird Tampa 2 look, good ball from Bryce Young to split the safeties and let Waller keep running

Bucs defense kicks so much ass

excellent job working back to the ball from Zay Flowers there. much more mature player this season

panthers fuhasdbviguewqvfg

this is the way

Tacorover@tacoroverr.bsky.social

im thinking 81 would Be best so he could be 9^2.

Joe Burrow trying to play bullshit ball today

what if they let JJ McCarthy wear 27 next week

Kyle Hamilton 1 of 1 what a freak

continue to be impressed with how Bucky Irving is running this year. so much bouncier than last season.

man that Godwin screen would've gone for 10 at least

I would like the Steelers to bring some heat instead of their 5723472nd sim pressure

how about that

Chase Young 99 strength

Saints offense has devolved into a worse version of the 2023 Chargers offense

he's been good! best rookie TE in a draft where everyone talked about how important TE was going to be. he's got real deal movement skills and has some blocking tools I expect he'll hone in time

man these QBs are putting on a show

man these QBs are putting on a show

that drive is what I thought Colston Loveland would be this season

Marcus Jones completely griefing on that TD

feels like the screen is going to shake every time the ball leaves Caleb Williams' hand. such an explosive thrower.

Don't hate trying that throw but ball has to be high + outside shoulder, not low + inside shoulder. Just not good placement from Maye.

good example of ball placement relative to coverage from Jacoby Brissett McBride running the out breaker but quarters S heavy outside leverage. Brissett places the ball on the inside shoulder for McBride so he can naturally turn to shield the ball from the S

Stuffed on 1st and 10 run vs double-A mug is brutal. Shoutout to Josh Sweat (10) for beating the TE and especially Mack Wilson (1) for blowing the center back three yards on contact

didn't love this 3rd and 7 run in the moment but watching it back I actually think this is a cool way to out leverage a blitz front to the perimeter w/ the tight trips set and behind the back give. hits if Walter Nolen (97) doesn't make an insane play in pursuit

Crazy footwork, balance, and flexibility from James Cook. Second only to Bijan Robinson right now when it comes to weaving through traffic.
