Lindsey Clancy’s criminal trial for allegedly killing her children has sparked debate about postpartum psychosis. Some feel a new mom who tried futilely to get mental health care deserves mercy; others condemn her as a killer. The law tends to judge mothers harshly, writes @queenmab.bsky.social.

I couldn't handle watching the Clancy trial. I'm a mom not so far out from postpartum, and I just...couldn't. But I also run a newsroom that covers reproductive justice and knew we had to cover this tragic case--properly. I knew @queenmab.bsky.social would bring the necessary nuanced & critical eye

I originally included El-Sayed in my piece on political masculinity for @rewirenewsgroup.com but it didn’t make the cut. Chris Hayes being impressed by his 315 bench press shows the appeal to men. But its interesting El-Sayed hasn’t been touted as masculine by pundits

Chris Hayes@chrislhayes.bsky.social

315 is wild. Damn.

To to clarify the comment about Abdul El-Sayed was only cut for length! I think @catesby.bsky.social had to cut a few hundred words and kill a few darlings from my original draft. Interesting subjects could often support pieces that are twice as long

Max Miller & Graham Platner are edgelords, writes @queenmab.bsky.social -- and the Dems don't need to echo the GOP's embrace of toxic masculinity. After all, the left has its own election-winning brand of masculinity: the "Mamdani man." Another 🔥 take on the dumpster fire that is modern politics

New domestic violence accusations against Rep. Max Miller come just weeks after the scandal that ended Graham Platner's Senate race. As more young men run for office, @queenmab.bsky.social explains why we need to talk about "edgelord" politics, and how Dems keep flirting with it.

I can’t believe we’re reliving Andrea Yates. Lindsay Clancy begged for help. She didn’t want to kill her children. And everyday I swear people questioning if this can really be blamed on post partum psychosis. The response to this tragedy is connected to our forced birth culture

Last night, Maine Democratic nominee Graham Platner suspended his campaign for Senate following sexual assault allegations. Back in May, @queenmab.bsky.social wrote about how women’s safety has routinely been sacrificed to protect the political careers of powerful men.

Democrat Graham Platner has pulled out of Maine's Senate race after allegations of sexual assault and rape. This latest scandal comes after Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress and his California governor bid earlier this year. Mia Brett writes on why women keep secrets and when they come forward.

rewirenewsgroup.comWomen Have Sacrificed Too Much for the Careers of Powerful Men: Analysis – Rewire News GroupCesar Chavez, Eric Swalwell, Justin Fairfax, and the gender politics of keeping their dirty secrets.

Women often downplay sexual violations when we’re assaulted by men we know. We say it was a bad hookup, an uncomfortable sexual experience, it was our fault. That we do this doesn’t mean we weren’t assaulted. It means it’s difficult to admit a man we trusted did this

I never claimed to help victims in court. I have helped many victims access legal help & resources. I’ve interviewed & advocated for victims. I’ve written countless articles on sexual abuse. And I’ve experienced sexual abuse

Sharon Smith@opalsandrubies.bsky.social

So this nasty MAGA brain is a local "legal" historian of some bull shit with a substack and still has NOT ANSWERED HOW MANY VICTIMS SHE HAS ASSISTED ON COURT. Like me.

I couldn’t care less if you kiss my ass. I care a lot that you’re claiming a woman wasn’t raped because she didn’t call the police in a timely manner & chose to date an alcoholic

Sharon Smith@opalsandrubies.bsky.social

This is MAGA brain baby that attacks people because they do not kiss her ass. Misquoting and not giving the full story. Curious, how many times have you appeared in court for victims? AND when a rape like that occurs, I treat BOTH sides, as often the abuser is a family member with addiction.

A woman who apparently counsels rape victims is saying that if you date an alcoholic it’s your fault if your boyfriend rapes you

Sharon Smith@opalsandrubies.bsky.social

Then as a rape victim, YOU should realize how her story does not actually address HER supposed trauma, but his actions as AN ALCOHOLIC. She was choosing to date and enable an alcoholic. Very few alcoholics are passive, meek have great memories after their drunken state. Did she suggest he go to AA?

It’s misogyny to erase the multiple examples I’ve given of the work I do, presume you know better, and suggest women are only caring about democrats committing sexual assault out of political bias. Calling out your misogyny isn’t name calling.

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social

It is not misogyny but instead pointing out a bias that is do very clear in an election year where the Republicans will do anything to win. Do you really want to stoop to calling names? Be better…

I’ve listed multiple things I’ve done to stand against sexual abusers across political parties but this man presumes to lecture women that were not doing anything. Abusers being in power is not the fault of women who are doing everything we can. This is pure misogyny

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social

So you even admit it then that you are doing nothing? No calls to restore the media? No protests? Just roll op and play dead? Wake the F up!

I already told you why the Republican men are still in office. Because Republicans don’t care about sexual assault

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social

And yet all but one of the men I mentioned are still in office and the response is crickets… Why is that?

I ran a political advocacy group from 2017-2020 that was involved in supporting Christine Blasey Ford and educating people about sexual abusers in office. I’ve written articles, called reps, protested

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social

So what actually have you done to help any of the men I mentioned see the justice they deserved? I have made calls to representatives and the media, protested… I could go on!

Ah yes I’m either biased or a coward because despite my standing against all sexual abusers regardless of party affiliation I can’t get republicans to care no matter how much we scream

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social

You are either biased or a coward… If you make enough noise they will go, but the response to them has been crickets hasn’t it?

What would you like us to do? We supported Christine Blasey Ford, E Jean Carroll. We can’t make the Republican Party care.

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social

My question is why the same women that are going after Swalwell and Platner are just standing by doing nothing while Trump, Hegseth, Lutnick, Gonzales, Cory Mills, and Max Miller are still in office...

I will keep writing about patriarchy and sexual abuse until we end it. I don’t care how many people have talked about it before or how tired you are of hearing it. Voting is wholly insufficient in addressing these problems. If you don’t want to hear about it don’t listen

memedavis.bsky.social@memedavis.bsky.social

No, but I don’t know why you’d be writing shit about this. Everybody’s known this for hundreds and hundreds of years dummy we don’t need books about it. We need to change the way it is happening. VOTE

It has not been 250 years of freedom. It has been 400 years of colonialism and racism. There have been moments of the possibility of something better. Small promises of improvement. But the current moment is showing the worst of our legacy

Jesus, Ezra. That isn't what happened at all. Rufo did not "try to figure out if" it's true." He gleefully amplified the lie, then offered a bounty to anyone who could retroactively "prove" it. It spurred death threats. Thousands will soon be deported because of it. Many of them will die.

I fully expect the Supreme Court to allow Texas to teach the Bible as required reading under some ridiculous claim that it isn’t forcing “belief” or it’s just teaching “American values” or some other bullshit like that.
