This is such sad news about Catapult. Indie publishers are a vital source of culture in an increasingly monocultural world. I hope the employees, authors and books can reestablish themselves on favorable terms somehow. For all our sakes.

The adult children are in NYC together. Oldest working their job and youngest there working to figure out his future. Loving the photos from afar. And we all get to be together in Nashville next week!

Wildwood, the new film from the animation pioneers at Laika, is the longest stop-motion feature yet made, w/ voice performances from Carey Mulligan, Tom Waits, Mahershala Ali, Richard E. Grant & more. Not for little kids--it's scary & violent as hell--but a genuine dazzler. slate.com/culture/2026...

Today is long, but all good things. 1. Library Journal Day of Dialog Horror Panel moderation 2. Training 2 of 3 with a large library system 3. The BEARS -- Thursday Night Football and the weather will be perfect on the Chicago lakefront. Let's do this!

we love all genre fiction, and what better time to talk about horror than during their nationally and federally recognized holiday month of October? h/t to @raforall.bsky.social for that joke, which is that we are the only 2 genres with entire months dedicated to us. ❤️🔪

One of my favorite librarians @raforall.bsky.social graciously gave me space to explore Why I Love Horror! 💀

Proof of a few of my RA maxims. Get the books into their best reader’s hands! And There is no library jail! This is a perfect example of both. Well done Rain! Your kids will be lifelong library users and supporter as well. Related Beckyism- no one is going to die if you give someone that book.

Slowly but surely helping unravel a local book ban that is turning over a lot of unexpected chapters about the district more broadly. Whew. It's never the book, y'all, but the book is the domino here.
