would kids have had more learning loss if their teacher died? or more kids bringing COVID to their families? would more kids have lost parents? pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Just passed Charlie Kirk's (and probably(?) every other MAGAts) worst nightmare in the airport. Two pilots walking to their plane, one woman and one black guy.

It's over Halifax, I have the high ground.

aje.news/c1qf2l We're taking a cruise out of Boston in late June. The original plan was to spend a few days seeing the city ahead of the trip. Then we saw the hotel rates. $400-$500 per night for a Hampton Inn or equivalent even well outside of the city center. Hotel operators got greedy.

Now that Spirit Airlines is going out of business @spirit-halloween.bsky.social has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.

Imagine if we have had a functional anti-trust mechanism in the U.S. over the past ~15 years. Google would not own YouTube or Nest Facebook would not own Instagram or Whatsaspp or Oculus.

For the past year I've been working to reduce my spending on Amazon. Needed to order a new toner cartridge for work. Wanted to buy it directly from the manufacturer (Brother) but it is almost $40 more expensive than it is at Amazon. ☹️

Bunch of E-Mails from IG lately, someone is trying to steal my (inactive) account. If the notification E-Mails weren't so annoying I wouldn't really care. I haven't used that account in many years because Facebook is, and always has been, cancer on society.

Four generations of my family have served our country. Service is in my blood. The President wouldn’t know anything about that.

If the Democrats were going to cave they should have just done it from the beginning instead of letting the shutdown drag on for almost a month and a half.

AI and Crypto data centers need to be the first ones to lose power in a brown out.

Chrome is now showing a scary warning message for all users to our (very small) company web site, because it's not encrypted. There's no reason for it to be encrypted, It's just a very basic static web site. So annoying.

electrek.co/2025/10/15/n... Norway has done a fantastic job with EV adoption and other countries could learn a lot from their approach.

i'm the guy who invented the spike traps that pop out of temple walls. i hate my job. every day my boss says "why haven't we killed any archeologists" and i say "they haven't invented that yet." they pay me in tomb juice. i hate tomb juice. honestly i might just start working on my big boulder idea

Sunset over Talinn Harbor

Perhaps an equally important question, are there frequent fights at Vaffelhuset?

Wondering if there are ever strange things afoot at the Circle-K in this small Danish town. #BeExcellentToEachOther

Day 1 in Portsmouth was a busy one.

@altgov-labeler.bsky.social Would be nice to have this account post when accounts are added (or removed). There is one #AltGov account I follow that I could have sworn was on the list but isn't. Having the post there would tell me if I remember wrong or if the account was actually removed.

@thurrott.bsky.social not sure if you saw this but I found it somewhat interesting. arstechnica.com/gaming/2025/...

It's time for another electric vehicle charging video. Too many people believe EV charging solutions require expensive, huge electric circuits (or worse: service upgrades). The really high-power ones people tend to go with can be a headache, but there are many other options! youtu.be/W96a8svXo14

FDA significantly limits COVID-19 vaccine recommendations Critics said today’s announcement is more evidence of the current administration’s willingness to undermine public trust in vaccines. www.cidrap.umn.edu/c...

So the tire shop I've been using exclusively for more than 20 years has decided they no longer want my business. Because the owner got into a verbal disagreement with my (30 year old) son last year. Worse he jerked me around for more than a month before he told me this. le sigh

I've finished personalizing my new M4 MacBook Air. @thurrott.bsky.social

Super annoying when (idiot) web site designers (in this case the CA DMV) do stupid thing like blocking pasting into fields like bank account or routing numbers (for ACH payments). Forcing people to type these numbers offers no security benefit at all & only increases the chance of making an error.

This morning I was on my morning commute, driving the flow of traffic doing 45 in a 40. Woman behind me pulled onto the center median (not allowed obviously) and drove 55+ to pass me. The more police refuse to enforce traffic laws the more common this kind of dangerous driving will become.

One of the hallmarks of good satire is if the story is somewhat believable. Sadly this handily passes muster. www.duffelblog.com/p/pentagon-r... @duffelblog.com

Over the previous two nights I spent >4 hours on the phone with Apple support to fix what should have been a simple issue (downloading from the Mac App Store) Pretty sure there is a bug in the code and will only effect the very few people who use a Mac but have never used an iPhone or iPad.

It just occurred to me that I probably should get a User Agent Switcher extension for my new MacBook Air so I can pretend to be a (plebeian) Windows user online and avoid paying the "Apple Tax" when I buy things.

And I've just installed Perplexity (to replace Gemini) as well as Ente Auth (to replace Google Authenticator). Both small steps. Open to other suggestions or issues with the above apps I'm not aware of.
