Today would have been my daughter's 21st birthday. It's a tough one. I miss her like crazy and would give anything to have her chaos back in our lives. What I can do today is ask for your help. We created the Sophie Burdine-Schwartz Impact Fund through the @angelmanfoundation.bsky.social /1

October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month. Dysautonomia, also called autonomic dysfunction, is a group of disorders that affect the autonomic nervous system.

Oooh, excited to learn more on @scifri.bsky.social 1 in 5 people w a RASopathy condition have lymphatic problems and it can be devastating in newborns See: Central Conducting Lymphatic Anomalies

Science Friday@scifri.bsky.social

Lymphatic drainage is taking social media by storm. Hacks on how to clear toxins from your system are flooding people's feeds. But how effective are they? Do they actually work? We spoke with experts to find out. Listen to our episode "What is lymphatic drainage, anyway?" https://bit.ly/4hmk6T7

UCSF’s Kevan Shokat, PhD, just won the $1M Stephenson Global Prize for research in pancreatic cancer. He cracked KRAS, a cancer driver long considered “undruggable.” Drugs built on his work now treat lung and pancreatic cancer. https://ow.ly/UYuY50ZRSXg

New paper out @natcellbio.nature.com! In embryos, immune cell migration is guided by the surrounding tissue flow. In turn, tissue flow is captured by active wetting theory, generalized to include influx from the upper cell aggregate! Check the thread below! 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

nature.comTissue flow acts as a guidance cue for immune cell polarization and directional migration - Nature Cell BiologyLe et al. show that in Xenopus embryos, local ectodermal tissue flows provide a directional cue that polarizes and guides embryonic myeloid cells migration via cell-on-cell interactions.

Very happy to share my postdoc paper is out now in @natcellbio.nature.com titled "Tissue flow acts as a guidance cue for immune cell polarization and directional migration". If you love imaging and immune cells, this is for you! #microscopymonday www.nature.com/articles/s41... A 🧵: 1/n

Happy to share this new study with close and long-time collaborator Tjitske Kleefstra. Using a back translation approach we uncovered a crucial role for astrocytes in Kleefstra Syndrome and how they can explain the positive response of patients to Olanzapine.

Children with Kleefstra syndrome (KLEFS1) can experience neurodevelopmental regression. Here, Tjitske Kleefstra & team find olanzapine improved symptoms in some patients, potentially by reducing astrocyte-driven brain hyperactivity linked to elevated S100β levels: doi.org/10.1172/JCI1...
