So... has anyone tried the Sightseeing Tour challenge with the plane in Switch Sports Resort? I have about 80% of all the snapshots... but weirdly, when I've flown around the island in night mode, at least 10 that I know I got in the daytime appear as if I never got them? Maybe something to patch?

Can confirm Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, despite its "Sportsmates" instead of Miis (though you can play as one), AND despite not bringing every Wii version sport over (RIP frisbee & swordplay)... TOTALLY rules. Very much a "Here's Wuhu Island in 2026" approach but nails the original's vibe

But you can do both free mode and "mission" mode not just with the plane, but also now with a skateboard & jet ski (er, "power cruiser") as well, letting you REALLY explore pretty much anywhere you want to go. THAT is what I've been dreaming of for 15 years!

Tons of new features--you can earn bonuses, unlock items and costumes, AND there's all kinds of multiplayer modes that didn't exist before (especially online). I've only scratched the surface, but it's definitely a winner so far.

In addition to flying the plane in timed 5-min missions like in the old game, where you flew through/found those "i" symbols, now it's a "sightseeing" tour & you fly through 3D digital cameras. Totally works for me. (A nice accessibility touch: descriptions are both shown AND read aloud...

...in a perfectly deadpan robo-voice, at least in the English version). And YES, you can fly into the volcano--and wow, that alone is an improvement, connecting to a crazy array of interconnected tunnels coming out several places around the volcano & main island itself.

Haven't tried everything yet, but immediately tried archery, bowling, and the plane (arguably my favorite 3 things from the Wii version). Perfectly updated--just "same" enough but still different & with nice upgrades. So far, I am LOVING both "free mode" and the missions...

One way different versions of Taskmasters differ: TM UK S22 has a transphobe sympathizer in the cast who co-opted David Lynch's anti-transphobia "fix your hearts or die" line, while TM NZ S7 has a contestant delivering a rap calling out transphobia and every other kind of bigotry.

I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on, nobody should support this kind of deception. They created a fake pamphlet to spark trans outrage and sent it to every home in Texas. Then their paid shills continued the outrage on social media. Politics is broken.

Laura Bassett@lebassett.bsky.social

Team Paxton appears to have sent out fake mailers to Texas voters impersonating a trans student group and claiming to want to help kids secretly transition. The actual group said they had nothing to do with it, despite the mailers copying their aesthetic, and the address traces to a random UPS box.

Is there a lore reason why the Zora in (specifically) BOTW and TOTK have **heads shaped like the bodies of sea creatures** while the rest of them is humanoid (except for King Dorephan, who's 90% whale)? Reminds me of the bug-body-for-a-head humanoid woman in the novel "Perdido Street Station".

While we're at it: WHY are fish people living **in a mountain valley**? Not along the coast? Or off of the coast? Are there major underground water channels running from under Zora's Domain to the ocean? And WHY is their temple in the sky? (I know the answer is "to avoid Link going underwater")

Trans people get called extremists for saying “hey don’t watch a wizard tv show.” Meanwhile people out here literally calling for legislative bans on our existence are propped up as feminist icons. Really just shows how those who make people uncomfortable or disrupt consumption are vilified.

Can confirm what appears to be a persistent glitch in Breath of the Wild that seemingly works on Switch 1 & 2: After beating Vah Ruta in Zora's Domain, fast-travel to it & look straight up. Wait about 45 seconds & the One-Hit Annihilator from the DLC will fall from the sky & through the ground.

(Note that you can't do anything with it or even grab it. Also, not sure if you have to own the DLC or not--I do. But I got it to work on Switch 2. And it happens any time I fast travel there.) Your pointless thing of the day!

"The Beast" sounds like if Renny Harlin saw JUST the scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier where Sam Jackson is attacked in that high-tech tank of an SUV, and thought, "Make that a whole movie, and keep Sam in it too"

Quite something watching the absolute back and forth over the merits of Digger and the debate over its artistic merits while not a soul makes mention of its lead's past (and still presumably present) problematic nature. Truly not sure if folks forgot, or if a new generation just doesn't know.

Replaying BOTW I forgot that luminous stones were 70 rupees each (I thought they were 30), so when I gleefully traded 40 of them for 4 diamonds (worth 500 rupees apiece) in Zora's Domain, I didn't realize until just now that I had a net loss of 800 rupees worth of luminous stones. Lesson learned!

Curious: who out there does what I do and, when they find out a performer or artist or actor is problematic--part of a cult, credibly committed assault, documented history of discrimination or has been cozy with those who have, etc.--do you stop watching or listening to work including them? I do.

Knowing that, combined w/the queasy feeling of unavoidably thinking about what they've done--sometimes directly contradicting the beliefs of a character they play, in certain truly awful cases--makes "separating art and artist" impossible for me. There'll always some other piece of art to enjoy.

That also extends to anyone who platforms said performers (e.g., directors who happily work with certain actors and vice versa; hosts of shows who have certain performers as guests or contestants). Again, it sucks, b/c either those folks are irresponsibly clueless, or in the know & complicity, IMO.

Don't really have much of a point here, I guess. I know people who know certain performers have done indefensible things, yet still watch & enjoy their work. Their reply: "If I stopped enjoying everything that involved someone I liked, there'd be nothing to watch or listen to!" To which I'd say...

It's depressing your capable of ignoring the countless lives impacted (often destroyed) by these people, just so you can find comfort in a movie you like or a song you enjoyed. Someone out there is living with lifelong agony that I assume is compounded every time they see or hear that same art.

That's not a flex. It honestly sucks to do. I simply can't "separate art from the artist," though. The very idea repulses me. And it's been brutal this last year, as I no longer watch 3 of what were once some of my favorite shows b/c of it.

i don't believe in AI "music". i listen to They Might Be Giants for the song sung from the drummers POV admitting that he's secretly Whitney Houston in disguise. about a musician that desperately wants to be known by his stage name. about that little birdhouse in your soul.
