Her issue with her male form is simply that whoever finds her beautiful or charismatic, she feels even less of a person of her own and just a decorated, changeable husk, a tool used by the mage council, deceiving her friends, a toy used by lovers.

Keeping it up is costly (it’s an illusion, she’s not shapeshifting) and takes up a good chunk of her concentration. It takes a special person to see her like this in the first place, otherwise this form remains the same as all the others: a practice in front of a mirror by herself.

Whilst she can make someone see, feel, and hear her looking like another form (male, female, other race, age, object, literally anything), she almost never appears other than (maybe modified) herself unless her life is in danger. Even her shady dealings are done in her main form.

This is because as an illusionist, she’s constantly on the cusp of blurring illusions and reality, and overusing her powers so much anyway that she’s terribly afraid/thinks that her life is just an illusion or that she is not a person beyond her magic.
