"Beta" is often just referred to a catchall term in the general populace for any version of a game shown off prior to release. It's certainly not an accurate term, but it's become a weird colloquial thing that people (myself included) have adopted over the years.

Being asked about the "Portal 2 beta" is so bizarre... there was no beta, this never existed. This is like the "L4D Beta". Games are constantly being updated and worked on, we never stopped and shipped a beta or showed a beta, every single press event I ever did was a new build... It's just odd

Even still, we try our best to make what we believe could be the closest to a "snapshot" of the game while it was in development at a given time, based on articles/code snippets/etc to try and replicate what it may have been like.

It's what these accuracy projects like Project 2009 do, they try to be as 1:1 to the available reference material as possible, even if those ideas only lasted a short amount of time.

When people talk about a "Portal 2 Beta" or a "L4D beta", I'm sure they really just mean whatever snapshot of a stable staging build that was shown off at a given time. It may not be particularly accurate, but it gets the point across.

There's a TF2 related project I work on (not Pre-Fortress 2) that involves us rebuilding the earlier revisions focusing primarily on 2006. Even here, we talk about it being the "TF2 beta" despite knowing just how much iteration can occur within just a few days.

thank you bluesky for randomly marking my last 29 notifications on here as unread. i felt my heart drop to my ass for a second seeing "29" on there given i dont frequent here that much

granted there are a lot of people who also like the overdrive, since this amp is made for 80s metal (sold in the early 90s) so people who want those tones go for this, and then everyone else hates it lmao

never use routenote. my release got denied for incredibly vague reasons, and when i tried to email them about it they hit me with: "At this time, we are unable to accept further releases from your account." and tells me to go to other platforms

i chose routenote because it's free. i dont exactly have a form of income currently. if i did id just use distrokid or something so to effectively tell me to go fuck myself has really soured my mood for the day
