Will Durant really wrote a popular history of philosophy and then went "this is great, but to fully appreciate it you must understand all of known history" and proceeded to write 11 volumes with his wife, ending just after Napoleon we don't get insane projects like this anymore but I salute them

not nearly as good as Aria of Sorrow in my view, but definitely worth a run

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (2005) | action RPG | Nintendo DS | Konami Michiru Yamane and Masahiko Kimura's amazing tunes fill the sequel to 2003's Aria of Sorrow which used the DS' stylus to draw "magic seals" and saw the return of Aria's Tactical Souls making monsters a part of Soma's arsenal!

it's a Liam Neeson film where he's a secret badass, and the kind of thriller that you watch with your family and hear your mother gasp at the appropriate places I can't really knock it, it's quite entertaining and there's collusion between evil government officials and sex traffickers, classic stuff

I've been saying this for a good while, but I'm deeply convinced that "fascism was a justified reaction to the threat of communism" is going to become a mainstream historical position, upheld by institutional power, if socialists don't make major gains in the near future I see it spread everywhere

Centrists literally voted to give Hitler dictatorial power but we gotta listen to this shit? All on the same "commies refused to compromise with social Democrats" line that ignores socdems were no less intransigent. Exhausting.

it's almost incomprehensible for mine and later generations to believe that masses of people used to genuinely see themselves as part of an ongoing social transformation, which would make all the sacrifices worth it just believing in something like this now is "extremism"

we're assaulted from all sides by the idea that we need to be pragmatic electoral realists, acquiring an actual hopeful horizon for the future has become a matter of individual effort, such as reading theory this is not sustainable without a collective project

the secret of liberals turning into fascists is probably that so many liberals already think that the entirety of politics consists in preventing democracies from collapsing into fascism, so it's only rational to join such an eternally powerful enemy when resistance is futile

such a stacked cast, and it's wasted on this movie it's neither historically passable nor particularly interesting, it just focuses on the most sensational aspects of Henry VIII's marrital shenanigans I kinda hate what the popular imagination has made out of the English Reformation, honestly

letterboxd.comThe Other Boleyn Girl (2003)Based on the controversial novel by Philippa Gregory, "The Other Boleyn Girl" is a fictionalised account of the life of Lady Mary Boleyn who becomes mistress to England's king, Henry VIII, before bein...

So we fly a pride flag in our front yard in a very conservative neighborhood and it’s been there for the last few years. Someone put this in our mailbox and my goodness…
