NDP Leader Avi Lewis says Carney’s government is “flooding the zone.” “We are in a crisis moment. We’re under economic attack from the United States and we need a crisis response,” Lewis said. 1/2

This crisis moment is a chance to reimagine what kind of Canada we want to build – and Canadians are ready to build big things together.

Funny, because the Truckers got three weeks to hang out before police lifted a finger. Interesting.

Workers are losing their right to strike and Canada is being sold for parts so naturally Canada’s columnist class is focused on what really matters: Why the only prominent progressive voice in politics right now is Evil for criticizing a literal genocide

The changes to the Canada Labour Code in this new bill are “without precedent in Canadian law and they’re without precedent even amongst our trading partners in the G7.” “It provides the complete and unlimited discretion to the federal minister to decide who gets to go on strike and who does not.”

Richard Elliott reposted

“This bill explicitly gives government the power to end legal strikes when a minister decides that a strike is or could become contrary to the national interest — and the national interest is defined solely by the opinion of the minister,” warns top labour leader Bea Bruske. Holy shit. This is bad.

Mark Carney wants to build AI factories in the middle of downtown Vancouver. It’ll likely spike energy prices, and suck up water resources - but local communities are fighting back. If we can make the backlash big enough, we can force the government to rethink: eko.org/canada-pause...

In today’s video, I’m going to show you a clip. In it, Israel’s national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir can be seen toasting champagne to celebrate a apartheid law enacting a death penalty for Palestinians. I reached out to our foreign affairs minister to ask about it. Here’s what happened:

Alongside friends, colleagues, and communities the world over, the HIV Legal Network mourns the passing of Stephen Lewis. He was a true champion for those living with and affected by HIV, a committed human rights activist, and a mensch beyond measure.

He was a hero to me, a friend, a mentor of sorts, a comrade. I had the privilege of colluding, cogitating and agitating with Stephen on numerous occasions over nearly 25 years in the fight for human rights in the HIV response, and will always be grateful for those opportunities.

A new bombshell report just dropped that exposes hundreds of Canadian arms shipments to Israel. I reached out to the government about this...and their response suggested either further obfuscation or that they're uninformed about weapons exports during a genocide. Here's what happened:

The air drop dropped 25 tons of humanitarian aid over Gaza. That’s less than a truckload. Thousands of truckloads are needed. There are thousands of trucks ready to go in. They are not being *allowed* in. The answer is not to drop from the sky. It’s to open the gates.

The betrayal of science and of public health continues.

In case you missed it, in all the bad news (as I did): the FDA is apparently not updating the covid vax (from JN.1, in the M. & P. vaxxes) to inc. newer strains, this fall. Yet another way to undermine confidence in vax efficacy, as well as the actual vax efficacy. www.medscape.com/viewarticle/...

5 years since the start of the pandemic and it is frustrating that we still need to keep repeating: vaccines, masks, tests, and cleaning the air all play roles in reducing transmission. Wrongly claiming that any of these layers isn’t important is an anti-science stance.

Take a moment to support more sensible, forward-thinking policy that is in our self-interest (as future pensioners) and the planet (without which there won't be much point to having whatever meagre public pension might survive the depredations of the oligarchs by then).

According to the headline “Diseases are spreading. The CDC isn’t warning the public like it was months ago,” and while l am accustomed to keeping my expectations low, evidently these days it is expecting too much to expect the Centers for Disease Control to control diseases.

Under its new leadership — who spread misinformation throughout the pandemic — the FDA announced it will limit all Covid vaccines to adults over 65 and those with certain medical conditions. Covid continues to spread and cause harm. This an anti-science move that will kill more Americans.

Covid isn’t over just because you want it to be. The rush back to normal was done to prop up the economy, not because the threat had passed. We have the tools to not only beat COVID, but reduce the spread of many airborne diseases. Masks in healthcare, clean air & paid time off save lives.
