Applications close 27 October. Two ERC-funded fellowships let MSc graduates start a PhD at ITQB NOVA in December. Physicists, engineers, computer scientists: one call is yours, building a smart microscope that catches infection live and images it at 20 nm. henriqueslab.org/pages/recruitment.html

Here is the ray tracing in reverse, it also focuses on a stationary plane. Still find that amazing. It looks like three mechanical degress of freedom is the minumum, it did not work as well with only two.

miOPM leverages @amsikking.bsky.social ‘s Any Immersion Remote Refocusing (AIRR), which extends traditional remote focusing to samples with a refractive index mismatch. Below, we adjust the miOPM to the refractive index (bead sample, cleared tissue). We also derive the AIRR theory mathematically.

I said it before, I say it again: get an MMR titer at your next physical. You want antibodies when measles virus comes your way. I got mine, and I still have immunity.

Utah shifted from "containment" to "mitigation" in its measles response earlier this year. Many other states will make the same tough decisions as measles returns. Please check out my story for more on this pivotal chapter in US health history. www.wired.com/story/anguis...

I think we have some work to do…

Hello #world, meet 1,000× Expansion Microscopy. A small gel would grow to the size of an Olympic swimming pool, while amino-acid-scale distances become visible with ordinary light microscopy. Led by Helena Hu from @eboyden3.bsky.social's lab, in collab with us. Story: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Naively, to disprove the conjecture, one counter example graph is sufficient? Is this something a neural network can just power through and exhaustively look for a graph that disproves the conjecture? Not to downplay the achievement, just wondering if this problem was good fit.

Of all the books banned in Utah, „Mein Kampf“ is not one…

Throughout history, the people who burn books always end up being the bad guys. Utah has made such a dramatic shift over the past few years, in a bad direction.

We got multiple times the feedback that oblique plane microscopes are too complex. So how about a detection train with only two photographic lenses? www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Altair Direct View OPM Preprint! We built a simplified direct-view oblique-plane microscope for imaging big, optically accessible specimens with a single-objective light-sheet geometry. Delivers... • ~5.4 mm field of view • ~2.6 μm, ~3.4 μm, and ~17.8 μm resolution in X/Y/Z

Hi optics folks We have a couple of fixed output CW laser. Is there something easier for power modulation than Acousto-optical filters? 10-100kHz modulation rate would be enough. Single mode fiber coupling is also fine. Electro optics, Mems fiber switch? @tanner-fadero.bsky.social
