Democrats must recon with the idea that, guided by ideology and in exchange for massive profits from government contracts, many of these tech companies were *fine* assisting with the erosion of democracy and civil/human rights violations en mass.

One key point @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social makes here is that if Dems win the midterms (and win in 2028), deploying congressional power creatively to unwind Elon Musk's sway over the government (contracts, etc) will be essential to any reconstruction: www.ms.now/opinion/elon...

Using my clout and sway to boost this paper from my friend Ben, who is rightfully enjoying some attention for it!

I've posted my first systematic attempt to make sense of the past 20 months, as well as what came before. It's a work in progress, so please do hit me up with comments, objections, and screeds. The abstract (w/ alt text) is here. Some acknowledgments & refs in 🧵.1/x papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

AOC on Trump’s Thursday address: I don’t think we should be contributing to the platforming of lies about our elections. Many of these outlets often receive transcripts, and I think we have an ethical obligation not to air things that undermine our elections and are not rooted in fact.

Luckily there are enough books written before AI came out to read for the rest of my life

After multiple winners of the 2026 Commonwealth Short Story Prize were accused of enlisting generative artificial intelligence to write for them, statements from the institutions involved just raised more questions, and the authors aren't talking. Are AI literary scandals the new plagiarism?

Just heard from my bedroom window a weird sort of whistle going down the street and then a woman’s voice yell “ICE is here, la migra está aquí.” In South Philly.

This is the singular legacy of the Biden administration, the failing that preceeded all subsequent failings. What good there was (and there was real tangible good!) will have to be excavated from a legacy of failing while in power to punish the plotters and beneficiares of an attempted coup.

If somebody attempts a coup, and then they’re not held accountable by elites and institutions, the public will draw the conclusion that it’s not a big deal.

Every collection of used records you’re looking through has two copies of After the Gold Rush by Neil Young in separate locations

Elon's little serfs are quite literally begging journalists to come back because every publicly available source of data shows people have fled the platform and young people won't use it. They are literally begging regular people to come back. Don't do it! It is a website by and for actual Nazis!

You can’t “fix” X, The Everything App by going back and posting there because the owner has this thumb on the scale of the algorithm to promote the worst ideas and people. It’s not a viable solution, you have to let it go.

It would be funny if instead of being the friendliest sweetest guys in real life, metal dudes were actually really nasty guys who you need to stay away from
