Fucking time travel is the laziest crutch.

DiscussingFilm@discussingfilm.net

Anthony Russo says that Steve Rogers’ time travel in ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’ causes the events of ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ to happen. “[In Endgame: Encore] we sort of play one beat past where Steve Rogers’ story ended with Peggy Carter. In that moment, that’s where Doomsday is born.”

Sally Quinn and David Broder said Bill Clinton trashed "their town." She, and the DC press corps, were deeply, violently offended at the metaphorical "trashing" of DC by Bill. Crickets about the actual trashing of DC by Trump.

CatDaMaMa@catdamama.bsky.social

The cherry trees are a symbol of DC. Huge number of tourists visit them each year and are a thing of beauty. But Trump cuts down the oldest cherry blossoms in DC for his golf course. He has ruined our city. www.alternet.org/trump-dc-gol...

I think the point is that pundits like Matty put democracy below everything else, and that's a problem. Matty feels it is condescending to write "democracy matters". And yes, we do need to fin d a way to appeal better to Ariana Grande voters.

Yeah I think Yglesias is just descriptively correct here. It turns out that a great many people do care more about nonsense stuff like irritating HR trainings than they do about other things which I think they really ought care more about, and we need to work out what to do about this.

‘THE ODYSSEY’ is now tracking to pass $1 billion worldwide in its box office run. It is expected to become Christopher Nolan's highest grossing film ever.

Nothing unfortunate about it

My dissent on this, also at @theunpopulist.net. Probably one of the pieces I’ve caught the most flak for from certain quarters, but it’s where I am as a reluctant convert. This Court really is that bad, and it is not an unthinkable apocalypse for Congress to exercise its constitutional check on it.

A great film

Andy “The Action Guy” Gorham@andrewmgorham.bsky.social

Rewatch complete of Jeremy Saulnier’s powder keg of an action thriller. An amazing leading man performance by Aaron Pierre combining confidence and strength in a powerhouse of a role. Perfectly built tension combined with an excellent portrayal of a non lethal tactical action!

It;s precisely in the fact that he could have been different but consciously chose to Make Trump great - just like McConnell - that he embodies the true evil of the modern GOP actively, knowingly, calculatingly working to destroy the Republic.

These fuckers chose with Eyes Wide Open, knowing exactly what it would entail, intoxicated at the chance to undo whatever was left of Reconstruction, The Civil Rights Movement, reproductive rights, rework the judiciary into a junta, dismantle the state....the list goes on. Graham et all chose this

I've already got two Montverde's, which reliably write beautifully, but this looks so good, though I really need to add a Sailor, Pelikan and TWISBI to the collection. Too many EOFY sales, not enough $$$

Fuck the FCC, we have to take back control of space for the global commons, for humanity.

ICE desperately wants you not to care about this story But we must. The killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national striving for his American Dream, is a moral outrage, and a warning. ICE hopes you won't notice that mass deportation is back My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/ice-...

inquirer.comICE killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. They want you to be apathetic. Don’t be. | Will BunchSalgado came from Mexico, built the American Dream, sent his sons to college, and was senselessly killed by ICE.

This Day in Labor History: July 6, 1892. In one of the Gilded Age’s most notorious anti-labor acts of violence, 300 Pinkerton detectives, working for Andrew Carnegie’s Homestead Steel, cracked down on thousands of strikers, leading to a gunfight that killed three Pinkertons and seven strikers!!!

“I know it’s hard to believe this is real, so here’s the link” will be the standard journalistic disclaimer for the entire Trump era. Writing about Vlad the impaler impaling 20k people does not l need this kind of note to reassure people they aren’t being fed hallucinatory bullshit

political analysis of the mid-2000's (which was incredible dumb and wrong) absolutely cooked the extreme right into thinking all there paranoid replacement fantasies were coming to pass.

This whole decision has nothing to do with Chuck, god help me the flying monkeys out to get him (and I have no time for him at all) are weird. But the central take away is just how close Trump came to not eating shit and on this case, and what that says about the court and the radical right

This runs up against your immutable maxim that the worst crime in journalism and punditry is accurately describing the views and policies of the GOP

Scott Lemieux@lemieuxlgm.bsky.social

Here’s the thing: if you actually want Trump not to be perceived as filling the “anti-war lane,” just say that he‘s a bloodthirsty warmonger who started an extremely stupid war! You don’t need to wait for Democratic politicians to say some arbitrary combination of magic words to say it!
