You can find a sliver of my life here, mountainbikes, motorcycles and the occasional tech rant (probably relating to Game dev or Linux) This is me and I merely share for fun. (Oh and opinions are my own, not that of my employer or any other organisation.)

Valve has anti VPN policy in their subscriber agreement. They say that you are not allowed to use an "IP Proxy" or any other form of "hiding your location" despite the fact that IP doesn't expose your location in the first place. Banning VPNs for no good reason.

I'd be less upset over it if it was specifically for the purposes of geo restrictions on content or pricing. But it is not, it says "for any other purpose" as well and that is not okay.

And final message in the thread - yes they do act on it - they do detect whether you use a vpn or not when you interact with the store or support. I've not seen a ban yet, I have seen messages from steam support though, demanding that you not use VPN and that they will refuse to "do business"

Problems 1 with this policy: IP location doesn't equal your geographical location in the first place, so it's flawed in its basic principle already and doesn't achieve what the original intention was. (I even lived in a place where my IP location was in another country.)

Problem 2 with this policy: I asked and they replied it's to prevent compromised accounts requesting refunds to steal$. Which is a load of BS - refunds should always be processed to the original purchasing method, therefore no theft can happen that way.

What's the hastag people used for those wannabe dev tweets? :D Here is my entry into the "competition" - my office for the day

Not exactly day6 as I didn't post updates for a while, had nothing to show - working on some under the hood systems. Anyway, got a very basic AI controller shoving inputs into my physics character. (Also the green guy isn't supposed to be that big haha) #godotengine #gamedev #indiedev

So... it's a 2D platformer, right? But we want AI and a lot of movement. So I'm contemplating the meaning of life... Is a simple AStar grid navigation gonna cut it or not? Is using a complex behaviour tree plugin an overkill - would it be simpler to make my own state machine? #gamedev #indiedev

No new game dev updates, had to put on my Red Hat and replace a failing SSD in a root mirror of my server. SMART was reporting over 11 years of nonstop uptime, a bunch of read errors, self test was stuck and never finished, etc... It served well.

day5 - Wall jump? And a little debug hud. The numbers still need tweaking heh, it's a bit goofy. #godotengine #gamedev #indiedev

day4 - jump grace time and input buffering... I spent most of the day on silly job application tests. Really amazing how companies have the balls to immediately ask for 3 hour long test with no compensation, for a non-senior position I'm overqualified for. #godotengine #gamedev #indiedev

We've decided to start working on our own game with my partner @kass.rip - I should have plenty of time for a month, since I won't be able to get a new job over xmas. (Anyone needs a senior engineer - Linux/C#/C++/gamedev?) Yeees, it's @godotengine.org on Fedora Linux #godotengine #gamedev #indie

Bigger #bidoof AND a whole bunch of #repo robo's :> Next is purple. I'll probably end up making a few different ones, not sure which colours yet. Red as well maybe. #pokemon #3dprint

Well, still can't guess it? :) One of the most popular games on the planet, ever? #gaming #art

Does this help you guess? :D #gaming #art

"Share a picture of yourself in a stupid hat" Does it count as a stupid hat? :D

This is my #GamingOnLinux :) GPD Win 4 (2023 - AMD 7840u, 32GB 7500MT/s DDR5, 1TB NVMe) and how I carry it. Today I got new earbuds (me no like in-ear). Audio quality is great and I'm spoiled by my Sennheiser and Audeze. Latency is noticeable but it's very low, even fps games are playable. [1/2]

[2/2] The only drawback is that it can get entangled with your hair, if you're like me. Other cool stuff I carry with me: 10gbps NVMe drive with both USB C & A, dongles for DP1.4 & HDMI, USB C to A, microfibre cloth and 65W 2x USB-C charger with magnetic cables. I run #FedoraLinux on it <3

Smol progress. Still gotta sort out the network stuffs and cooling. Yeah I know, I have a Noctua hoarding problem. They're all nearly 10 years old, serving very well. #homelab

Moving my server into a new rack. Some numbers for nerds... - 24U rack for all the network stuffs, UPS, 4U ATX chassis for Nextcloud, Discord bots, game servers, etc. Now with 10gbps network. Not everything is hooked in yet, if I won't forget i'll take another pic when it's actually done. #homelab

I'm running the #FedoraLinux on my GPD Win 4 to achieve #SteamDeck -like experience without unnecessary bloat. Benefits include being able to tab out of Gamescope to full desktop instead of having to switch. (And not having ostree.) How to: rhea.dev/articles/202... :)
