It's not even exaggerating that content produced about ME/CFS and Long Covid by people with no medical knowledge, here a kids' TV show, is generally better than what experts produce. This is a choice. A choice no reasonable, competent person would make, and yet here we are.

Adam@abrokenbattery.bsky.social

Short #MECFS explainer for children from German TV. Includes an explanation of post-exertional malaise (PEM), the worsening of symptoms after activity. Note: People can recover. Older studies suggest around 5–10% of adults make a full recovery.

It never, ever happens that a kids' TV show will produce more informed content than actual experts. Just straight up never happens unless something is deeply wrong. And we know that things are deeply wrong with how medicine mishandles those illnesses, that outcomes are horrible. By choice.

It's not just that this is scandalous in itself, it's the complete indifference. It does not bother any of the institutions of medicine that they are failing millions in all the ways they are never supposed to fail anyone. No adaptation, no leadership, just hubris and intransigence. Rotten system.

One remarkable dynamic when it comes to how health care systems fail chronic illnesses like Long Covid and ME/CFS is that every single assessment, any time in any country, has concluded that it's completely inadequate and must change. And nothing ever changes. Never has, not even one bit.

They even pretty much universally agree about the root cause: psychosomatic ideology. Always. Literally every single report finds that this is the cause of this systemic failure. This rotten ideology is clearly far more important than 100M+ lives to the medical profession. Absolutely rotten.

This is completely deranged and barbaric. And it's SUPER popular. With the general public. With governments. With health care systems. With the medical profession. This is definitely not something that will survive the AI revolution. It will be exposed, shut down, and there will be consequences.

Really, there hasn't been a single serious evaluation that found that anything done was adequate. Literally a 100% failure rate across the board. All by choice. All the consequences of ancient ritual sacrifices, 100-1000x the size, with none of the (hallucinated) benefits.

All the pleas and protests dating back decades have been brushed back, with prejudice & well aware of the consequences of doing so. Those protests, demands of basic rights, make no difference, but they leave behind a huge record of how they all knew, and simply chose, keep choosing, to do nothing.

Not even the single most impactful event in its history, the COVID pandemic leading to Long Covid, could change any of that. The systems refuse to change, or do, anything. The medical profession refuses to do anything. Governments keep sacrificing millions of people in large open dump.

(1/2) In relation to the letter he was recently sent by Olympian Beth Dobbin, the 3 most important things @andyburnham.bsky.social could do are *immediately* fund #SequenceME, fascilitate implimentation of the NHS guidelines for #MECFS, order an investigation into the systemic negligence of ME/CFS.

By far the most effective way to bring welfare costs everywhere is to fund medical research, especially for chronic conditions that have long been neglected. It literally costs most to not do the research, so all those whining about how expensive disability is can sit the hell down and shut up.

Carole Bruce@cabruce.bsky.social

Beth Dobbin Olympic athlete who is now nearly totally confined to bed with severe #ME has written to Andy Burnham with some details about the illness and a suggestion as to how he might bring the welfare bill down.

It's such a human thing to pay more to get worse outcomes that make people suffer needlessly. The root cause of this problem is the medical profession and its fanatical obsession with psychosomatic ideology blinding them to it. All of this is a choice. It can be fixed, or at least improved.

But the excuses they offer for it are so pathetic that governments choosing to allow it are just as guilty of malfeasance and dereliction of duty. Governments have long been openly sacrificing millions for absolutely no good reason. One of the biggest scandals in human history.

People never look any further or deeper than what their daily routine demands. Even at work. Even experts whose job it is to look further and deeper. They stay in their lane, rock no boat. Almost no one goes against the system when it's against their interest. It doesn't matter what the stakes are.

Pretending otherwise only makes those failures more disastrous. Nothing is "sacred", and lives are cheap. Property damage matters far more than lives. It shouldn't, but it obviously does. This is a universal imperative when power is involved. Power crushes, and only benefits those in charge.

Also very relevant: "There is no use claiming a system's purpose is to achieve something it constantly fails to do. If an organization or machine repeatedly produces a specific result, that result is its effective purpose." The purpose of power is to perpetuate itself and benefit its rulers.

This is the second time the organization Sense About Science is trying to hand out an award for courageously standing up... on the neck of sick people. Awards handed explicitly for blocking science and care, immiserating millions in the process.

Once the nature of this illness is understood and people start asking what the hell happened, the simple answer will have been that this disaster of choice happened because the medical profession wanted it to happen. Genuinely as awful as what goes on in conspiracy fantasy communities.

Is that the medical profession prefers to hand out participation trophies to the people who work at blocking research, care and support. This is like handing out science awards to HIV deniers for stubbornly holding on to their discredited ideas. Except far more pathetic.

All of this is a choice. I will never understand or forgive those responsible. All along it would have been easier and cheaper to actually work to solve those problems, but instead an industrial machine of death and misery was created to perpetuate and amplify it.

TW: Suicide “So many people out there who are suffering, they choose to disappear forever… no one’s really speaking out for them.” Emma Donohoe talks about losing contact with members of the #MECFS community and finding out they had died by suicide.

Any talk of AI alignment has to contend with the fact that human affairs are not aligned with so-called human values. Humans choose this disgusting failure of a system. It will take machine intelligence to make the better choice. But the culpability will forever remain a stain on medicine.

Somehow every country is pretending that it's only happening in that country, and nowhere else, despite all of them knowing it's happening everywhere. It was predicted, it was documented, and still they are pretending not to know, because the medical profession is complicit in this Big Lie.

This post is unavailable.

They are lying. They do know better but they lie. The politicians lie. The authorities lie. Even the experts are lying here. Long-term chronic illness after infections has been known for decades. They are all lying about it, covering it up in plain sight.

I have sadly been following the crankery machine that is psychosomatic ideology for years. They never actually think about the possible consequences of being wrong. Never actually do, it never gets any further than what it could possibly mean for them, it's always completely superficial.

As if you can intentionally immiserate and destroy tens of millions of lives and just shrug it off. Bunch of weak, spineless babies. "So be it", one of those cranks said. So be consequences, I say.

Let the threat of those consequences motivate them to close their misery factories. All that matters is that this evil industry stops, and to liberate the millions of people they crush under their incompetence. For that there has to be real, severe punishment. It has to be remembered forever.

It's inevitable that this empire of death and misery will crumble. Most likely because of AI. The walls are closing in. And because they never actually think about what will happen after, let me make it clear: there will be consequences. The consequences will match the scale of the crimes.

However, the physical function criteria of ≥85 meant that virtually no-one met the criteria at the end of the trial, so not only did they drop the concept of 'recovery' for the main trial paper, but they massaged it heavily when it came to the actual 'recovery' paper. ≥85 became ≥60

So-called "evidence-based medicine" in a nutshell: doesn't work, recommend it anyway. They don't care. No wonder zero progress occurs in illnesses where this failing approach dominates. If this were a commercial product it would be banned. There are no adequate checks & balances in health care.

Anyone who still doesn't understand why there has been zero progress made with Long Covid, POTS and ME/CFS needs to understand that all of this is intentional. It's medicine being incapable of letting go of their psychosomatic fairy tales that ruins everything.

They might be very hard problems, clearly some of the hardest ones medicine has ever faced, but this doesn't even tell half the story. The failure is entirely a choice, fanatical insistence on healing mind magic and similar failed ideologies. Total death of expertise stuff.

It's sad that we can't trust anything they say about it. People suffering from chronic illness have been betrayed so perfectly for so long that weak statements like this ring completely hollow. Until something is actually done to correct the blatant denial of justice, words mean nothing.

Those with #MECFS who do *not* "look" fine are often treated like garbage too, because more ill often means more to blame. Many doctors who believe ME/CFS exists only accept a certain degree of disability, beyond that is then assumed must be due to personal issues rather than the illness itself.

The enshittification of academia in a nutshell: an open label trial with subjective assessment of the very model of care that has been failing the whole time, which they obviously know but pretend not to, is presented as double-blinded when it's not even single-blinded.

Long COVID Signal@longcovidsignal.bsky.social

VR exercise therapy did not significantly outperform conventional exercise in reducing fatigue in a German double-blind RCT. Only the VR group crossed the minimal meaningful improvement threshold, with less symptom worsening (9% vs 22%). (n=100) #LongCovid

Randomized trials are by far the least reliable form of evidence out there and this is just one of so many reasons. Because they still conclude that it should go to larger trials. Which they know is complete bullshit, failure on loop. They are not testing anything. They are selling a lie.

But that's the current reward structure: lie, bullshit, make stuff up and get ahead. The line between scientific medicine and alternative medicine has been effectively destroyed, and it's the medical profession and its institutions that did it intentionally.

It would be great if there were at least as much concern about human hallucinations as there have been about AI hallucinations. Especially because human hallucinations are clearly getting more frequent and influential over time, while AI hallucinations are not.

Lucibee@lucibee.bsky.social

This is the key slide. Scotland NHS now categorises SARS-CoV2 as R1, which apparently means that it no longer causes severe disease, no longer spreads in the community, and there is vaccination and prophylaxis available. We're in for an *interesting* winter methinks.
