Amandil heard rumour of the evil purpose of Sauron ... he spoke to Elendil and the sons of Elendil, recalling the tale of the Trees of Valinor; and Isildur said no word, but went out by night and did a deed for which he was afterwards renowned ... [The Silmarillion]

... he passed alone ... to Armenelos and to the courts of the King, which were now forbidden to the Faithful; and he came to the place of the Tree ... and Isildur passed through the guards and took from the Tree a fruit that hung upon it ... the fruit was planted in secret... [The Silmarillion]

When Celeborn and Galadriel became the rulers of ... Lórien ... the name of Galadriel [galadā = ‘great growth’] became associated with trees, an association that was aided by the name of her husband, which also appeared to contain a tree-word ... [celeborn = 'Silver Tree’] [Unfinished Tales]

Always loved this etymological quibble. The irony that by chance their names would sound like words for trees when in fact they have completely different origins Galadriel = garland-crowned maiden Celeborn = silver tall Over thousands of years their names create a folk history all their own

"He has dwelt in the West since the days of dawn, and I have dwelt with him years uncounted; for ere the fall of Nargothrond or Gondolin I passed over the mountains, and together through ages of the world we have fought the long defeat." [The Fellowship of the Ring]

Among those of his servants ... the greatest was that spirit whom the Eldar called Sauron, or Gorthaur the Cruel ... in after years he rose like a shadow of Morgoth and a ghost of his malice, and walked behind him on the same ruinous path down into the Void. [The Silmarillion, Valaquenta]

The master of the house [Elrond] was an elf-friend ... whose fathers came into the strange stories before the beginning of History ... in those days ... there were still some people who had both elves and heroes of the North for ancestors... Evil things did not come into that valley. [The Hobbit]

I have to admit, as someone who wasn't totally vibing with "Annatariel" compared to Haladriel... I see the appeal now. I mean it has a sort of "cousin stuff" aura but--

"I perceive the Dark Lord and know his mind ... and he gropes ever to see me and my thought." [The Fellowship of the Ring] He perceived at once that Galadriel would be his chief adversary and obstacle, and he endeavoured therefore to placate her... [Unfinished Tales]

Now the Elves made many rings; but secretly Sauron made One Ring to rule all the others ... much of the strength and will of Sauron passed into that One Ring ... and Sauron forged it in the Mountain of Fire in the Land of Shadow. [The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power...]

I hope he plays this character into season 5. Give him a hideously scarred appearance and the armor, let him go full Phantom of the Opera. I don't care just have him in the role until the end.

I have started to take Charlie for granted, because he's just such a perfect Sauron, but I mustn't do that. Thank goodness it's Charlie – I couldn't imagine anyone else embodying Sauron now. 🥹 #TROPspoilers

The Balrogs ... were spirits of destroying fire, chief servants of the primeval Dark Power ... supposed to have been all destroyed in the overthrow of Thangorodrim ... it is here found ... that one had escaped and taken refuge under the mountains of Hithaeglin [Hithaeglir/Khazad-dûm]. [Letter 144]

The power of the Elven-rings was very great, and that which should govern them must be a thing of surpassing potency... ... so great was the Ring’s power of lust, that anyone who used it became mastered by it; it was beyond the strength of any will (even his own)... [The Fall of Númenor]
