How IGN maps take into account the changes affecting high-altitude mountain areas in the latest editions? 🗺️ 🔥 Examples: - Change for ‘Former glacier of...’ (in black font) - Depiction of morphogenic changes following recent extreme events (e.g. La Bérarde) 1/

NISAR satellite passed over 9 October 2026 magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Azuero Peninsula of Panama about 6 hours after. Maps below are from slant-range and along-track offsets in Urgent Response geocoded offset (GOFF). Fault ruptured to surface, and surface displacements were measured well by GOFF.

Another flow disaster in Nepal, just one catchment to the west of the Trishuli. This one is also caused by a landslide, but with a different mechanism - the landslide dammed the river and an outburst flood followed. Landslide was at 4:22 local time, and the largest flood pulse started around 6 am.

The magnitude 7.7 #earthquake in #Panama has a shallow depth hypocenter (12-14km) and a strike-slip / normal mechanism 👇. It seems to be a crustal event within the Panama #tectonic microplate. The epicenter is near the Sona-Azuero fault, which traverses the Azuero peninsula. ⚒️

None of this year's science Nobel Prizes have gone to women. The number of these prizes to go to women remains at 27 out of more than 600. See how many you can name in our quiz: www.nature.com/immersive/d4...

It’s a quintessential French experience when your institution is blockaded by protesting students. This is precisely what American students should have done when their institutions began capitulating to the Trump regime.

Hundreds of scientists around the globe have been working tirelessly to piece together the sequence of events that led to the devastating flood in Tibet and Nepal, which has killed nearly 600 people, left nearly 2000 missing, and destroyed many towns and hydropower plants. https://scim.ag/3SErvn3

La catastrophe au Népal a été induite par un effondrement de glacier du Langtang Lirung, à une altitude d'environ 5200 mètres. Que sait-on du lien avec le réchauffement climatique dû aux activités humaines pour les glaciers de ce secteur ? 1/...

Dreadful scenes from the devastating Rasuwa flood in Nepal/Tibet. My heart goes out to everyone affected. It likely began with a glacier collapse / rock–ice avalanche recorded by seismometers worldwide. I hope real-time seismic monitoring can support early warning for communities downstream.

A new video emerged which seems to show a surface rupture in Yatsushiro, Japan following the M6.8 earthquake in July! Exact location of the video would be 32°30'04.0"N 130°38'29.9"E. Absolutely wild. Only the second ever video of a surface rupture forming after the 2025 Myanmar video! ⚒️🧪 #geology

An #earthquake of magnitude 6.8 happened close to Kumamoto in the island of Kyushu (SW Japan). Japan is prone to frequent subduction earthquakes, but in this case, the shallow hypocenter depth and strike-slip mechanism imply a rupture in the upper plate. ⚒️ 🧪

Yesterday afternoon 14:09 in Lacanau Océan in France. A pale red sun through the smoke tinged everything in Mars style orange. Welcome in the climate emergency! Despite all denial of the fossil fuel lobby, it’s scientific fact: CO2 emissions heat up Earth & make fires worse. 🔥🔥🔥

Holiday in the climate emergency. No that’s not AI or edited, just a snapshot I just took with my phone on Lacanau beach in France. What future will this boy grow up in? It is in our hands, but time is running out.

The areas affected by the #Fontainebleau forest #wildfires (3 Pignons and Faisanderie fires) are highly visible – in dark brown and red – on the Sentinel-2 satellite image @esa.int @copernicusland.bsky.social from July 20, 2026 👇. Over 10% of the Fontainebleau forest has been burned. ⚒️ 🧪
