This actually wouldnt be THAT shocking. In November 2024 there was significant GOP backlash to him calling opponents gay/retarded. And barely a year ago, local Congress reps wanted him out for asking if Jews or Muslims were bigger threats. A lotta people have loathed him for a lotta time.

Imagine telling someone in December 2024 that the Mayor of Fort Worth, Texas, whose husband is a registered AI data center lobbyist, is endorsing a Democrat for a statewide race.

Also just goes to show you how much the GOP has backslid in just two years on the R-Word, the use of which has become so normalized among the rightwing (and in society more broadly) that I doubt the same people would feel empowered to speak up today.

Mattie Parker, the Republican mayor of Fort Worth, has endorsed Democrat Jon Rosenthal for Texas Railroad Commissioner over Bo French - who for years ran the Republican Party in Tarrant County, which includes Fort Worth. She's the latest current/former GOP official to endorse a Democrat this cycle.

As I mentioned in this piece: Strategically, a Bo French win would mean very little for Republicans, who'd still have a supermajority on the 3-person Railroad Commission. It would, however, force them to spend another six years answering for him and his racism. A lot of Republicans already HATE him.

texasmonthly.comTexas Republicans Finally Rebuked Bo French’s Racism. What Took Them So Long? The Republican candidate for Texas railroad commissioner has a history of making xenophobic comments. This time he came for University of Texas students.

a friend in Dallas got this gem of a political text today. The PAC, Texans for Common Sense PAC, is funded by Texans United for a Conservative Majority PAC, of which a GOP mega donor named Tim Dunn, who you may have heard of, is a major funder of.

Just learned that Dennis Rodman has 70% of the records for most rebounds in a game without scoring a point - including back to back games where he put up 49 total rebounds and scored zero times. Insane stat.

UPDATE: Sid Miller went on MSNOW today to say that he did not vote for Governor Greg Abbott, who he blasted for taking money from data centers. I am struggling to find the words to describe how wild this all is.

‼️‼️ Outgoing Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller endorses Democrat Clayton Tucker over Nate Sheets, who he accuses of being a "snake" with a porn addiction. Miller was once a close Trump ally + among Texas's most rightwing GOPers but has been critical of Abbott, data centers and the hemp ban.

Citing Council of American-Islamic Relations encouraging members to politically donate, Rep. Jared Patterson is pursuing a bill that would bar agents of terrorist organizations from making campaign contributions. Bill follows a unilateral move by Gov. Greg Abbott to designate CAIR a terrorist group.

As I've said before: I dont think people understand how bad the Texas GOP civil war will be if they lose even *one* statewide seat (or lose ground in the state Legislature). Moves like this will only make the battle lines weirder. Imagine a Venn Diagram of circular firing squads.

Sid Miller is by far Texas' most colorful character. (Literally, he is very red). He's a rodeo champion, former state senator and longtime Trump surrogate who is most famous for his anti-Muslim posts or getting a "Jesus Shot" that cures most disease. Impossible to describe how crazy him flipping is.

This is at least the fourth person with diabetes to die in ICE custody just this year. Many more have been hospitalized and/or reported starving themselves so they wouldn’t die after being denied care. Is anyone aware of any litigation specific to immigrants with diabetes?

‼️ Weeks before midterms, Texas election officials have discovered that an unknown number of voter registration applications havent been processed due to an error by the DPS. The Texas Association of County Elected Officials say number could be "tens of thousands" - much of them in urban areas.

Per Mark McCaig of the Texas Voice, Tim Dunn in August gave another $2.3 million to two Super PACs that have been attacking James Talarico. A very real sign of the very real trouble faced by Dunn and Paxton, who was once his most important political ally.

🧵🧵 After 16 months on the sidelines, far-right billionaire Tim Dunn is getting involved in the Texas race for US Senate. Dunn's entry comes as Ken Paxton, whose political life he once bankrolled, trails in some polls and is getting killed in spending by James Talarico.

Meanwhile, as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick continues his fight for "religious liberty," this is the type of stuff his Republican colleagues are doing in his backyard - with no apparent pushback from him.
